DStv Premiership: AmaZulu to build momentum with Galaxy win

AmaZulu FC will resume their 2021-22 DStv Premiership campaign when they face TS Galaxy at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday.

Usuthu snapped their three-match winless run across all competitions when they edged out Guinean side Horoya AC 1-0 in the CAF Champions League game at home last week Friday.

Benni McCarthy’s side is placed seventh on the league standings – three points behind third-placed Royal AM as the battle to finish in the top three and qualify for continental competitions continue.

Tercious Malepe, the AmaZulu defender, says they have to go for a win when they take on Galaxy and build their momentum with games coming in thick and fast.

“We have to shift our focus from CAF, we come from the victory on Friday, which was a very good result for us,” Malepe said.

“Now we have to build the momentum of getting victories.

We are at home again and we have a tough game against TS Galaxy.

“We are working so hard to make sure we recover quickly, the games are coming back-to-back, but it is what it is.

We keep on analysing the opponents and we have to go for the victory.

”
Meanwhile, Galaxy are in good form at the moment having recorded their second successive win across all competitions when they overcame Swallows FC 1-0 in a DStv Premiership game away on Saturday.

The victory over Swallows has elevated the Rockets to the 14th spot on the league standings – a point above the relegation zone as the battle to avoid the drop to the GladAfrica Championship intensifies.

Sead Ramovic, the Galaxy head coach, has made it known that they will fight for every point in their final 12 matches in the current league campaign starting with their clash with AmaZulu.

“We just have to keep going, we have 12 more games.

It is not easy in this league because everybody can beat one another,” Ramovic said.

“So we have to be clear about it, stay calm and humble, and go into the next game by preparing well and fight for the three points.

It is great that the management also trusts the coaching staff in what we do and how we do it.

“It is a step in the right direction, but we have 12 more games and we have to fight for every point.

We just have to keep going.

”
AmaZulu: PLAYERS TO WATCH
Luvuyo Memela: The experienced attacking midfielder was the hero for Usuthu against Horoya as he scored the winning goal and he will be keen to inspire the KwaZulu-Natal giants to another victory.

Augustine Mulenga: The Zambia international was the best player on the pitch during Usuthu’s win over Horoya.

Mulenga will be looking to use his mesmerising dribbling skills to unsettle Galaxy’s defence.

TS Galaxy: PLAYERS TO WATCH
Lindokuhle Mbatha: The 36-year-old attacker seems to be ageing like fine wine having provided the assist for the winning goal against Swallows and he will pose a threat to the AmaZulu defence with blistering speed.

Augustine Chidi Kwem: The Nigerian hitman scored winning goals against Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Swallows.

Kwem will be confident of replicating the same form when he faces Usuthu.
