Drunk mother-of-two, Victoria Grant, has been found guilty of being drunk and disorderly in a public place and assaulting an emergency worker, after she spat at, tried to headbutt, and threatened a police officer as she was being arrested at 7 am, following an all-night bender in Liverpool.
During the incident, the officer repeatedly urged her to calm down, but was forced to take her to a police station when she refused to change her behaviour.
In custody, she continued shouting and making threats towards PC Neil Fogg, and tried to headbutt him, connecting with his left shoulder.
PC Fogg stated in a statement that she was saying she knew where he was from and that he was dead.
She also spat at him, hitting his chin, neck, and body armour.
Grant, who lives in Everton, was drinking heavily while caring for her elderly bedbound mother.
She was ordered to pay £100 compensation to the officer and sentenced to a 12-month community order with requirements that she attend 20 days of rehabilitative activity with the probation service, and fined an additional £180 with £234 in costs and a victim surcharge.
According to the prosecutor, Mr Lionel Cope, PC Fogg was called to a convenience store on London Road at 6.45 am on November 1, 2022, following a complaint that Grant was being aggressive towards staff and refusing to leave.
Grant had never previously been in trouble with the police.
She was slurring her words and was heard shouting obscenities at the police officer and the public.
In mitigation, defense solicitor Eileen Chisnall said that Grant was remorseful about spitting on Constable Fogg and that drinking had a huge impact on her behaviour that night.
She is the sole carer for two children who are in full-time education, and also her mother, who has COPD and has had a spinal operation, making her immobile.
Grant goes daily to help her and has full-time responsibility for her as her carer.
The judge said that this was Grant’s first appearance in court and she now leaves with the knowledge that she has a criminal record.
