Driver in Leeds Drags Police Officer Under Car During High-Stakes Traffic Stop Near Wykebeck Arms

A Seat Ibiza failed to stop for police during a routine traffic stop in Leeds, leading to a dangerous situation.

During the incident, a police officer was seriously injured after being dragged under the vehicle as the driver attempted to flee. The event took place near the Wykebeck Arms public house in Leeds.

Footage Reveals Terrifying Escape Attempt

Video footage captured the terrifying moment when the officer tried to open the car door to detain the driver, who then tried to escape. The car reversed over a green central reservation during the attempt.

Suspect Pursued and Intercepted

West Yorkshire Police had followed the suspect’s car and intercepted it in a tactical stop. Despite being boxed in, the suspect attempted to escape, resulting in the officer being dragged under the car.

Police Statement on the Incident

West Yorkshire Police released a statement: “Shortly after 1.15pm today, a Seat Ibiza failed to stop for a roads policing unit and was pursued before being brought to a stop a few minutes later on Selby Road, Leeds.”

Arrest and Injury Report

The occupants of the vehicle were arrested, and during their detention, a police officer sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Ongoing Enquiries and Road Closure

Enquiries are ongoing, and the road was temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation.

A second vehicle, not involved in the pursuit, was also damaged during the incident.
