Drew Carey Opens Up About His Struggle Watching Himself on Television and Reflects on Personal Loss in Las Vegas and California

Drew Carey has built an impressive career over the years — from stand-up comedy to hosting the beloved game show The Price Is Right, and starring in The Drew Carey Show.

Yet, despite his success in front of the camera, Drew admits that watching himself on TV is something he finds really tough.

In an interview ahead of the 30th anniversary DVD release of The Drew Carey Show, the 67-year-old got candid with Parade about his discomfort.

“Not a lot of my fans know that I don’t like watching myself on TV,” Drew revealed.

“I’ve sat in the editing room a few times, and I had to leave.

Every time I saw it, I thought, ‘That’s what I look like? And that’s how I walk?’ I just get so tired of seeing myself.”

Producer’s Push to Watch Himself on The Price Is Right

Drew’s aversion isn’t limited to just his sitcom.

He shared that even on The Price Is Right, where he’s the long-running host, watching himself was a challenge.

One producer had to practically twist his arm to get him to view footage.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God,’ and he was like, ‘I know, I apologize,’” Drew laughed.

“I don’t watch The Price Is Right or The Drew Carey Show much.

Maybe once in a while I’ll catch a minute or so — or Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Having Fun at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas

Despite being a bit camera-shy when it comes to himself, Drew was recently spotted enjoying himself at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas.

Surrounded by a lively crowd, he was seen smiling, dancing, and taking photos late into the night with a mystery blonde by his side.

According to reports, Drew was “the life and soul of the event,” charming fans and friends alike.

His energy and friendly nature clearly defied anyone’s expectations about his age.

Recent Outing with OnlyFans Creator Niki Skyler

Just last month, Drew was seen grabbing lunch in West Hollywood with Niki Skyler, an OnlyFans creator.

This came amid growing public curiosity about his personal life, especially since he has been open about not dating after a tragic loss.

Opening Up About the Loss of Former Fiancée Amie Harwick

Drew’s former fiancée, Amie Harwick, was tragically murdered in 2020 by her ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse.

While Pursehouse pled not guilty, he was convicted in 2023 and sentenced to life without parole.

Drew and Amie got engaged in 2018 but ended their relationship later that same year.

In a heartfelt February interview with Us Weekly, Drew shared how deeply Amie’s death affected him.

“It destroyed me for a while. I still don’t date,” he confessed.

“I have women I go out with and spend time with, but it’s all platonic. Amie’s death really affected everything.”

He spoke honestly about how the loss shaped his views on love and intimacy.

“I think about her every day. It’s such a loss.

Her death still affects me and my ideas about relationships,” he said.

The Final Message Before the Tragedy

Drew recalled receiving a text from Amie the day before she died, where she brought up forgiveness and asked to meet.

“I texted her that I loved her and that I’d see her the next week,” he said.

“I heard from one of her friends that she shed tears about me saying that I loved her still.

Which I did. I loved her madly, even though we had broken up.”

Finding Closure After the Sentencing

When Pursehouse was sentenced, Drew told People that it finally brought some relief.

“I can barely remember the guy’s name — that’s how much I’ve put him out of my life,” Drew said.

“Since the final sentencing, it feels like we’ve all let out a breath and can finally move on.

The whole process is over, and there’s nothing else to worry about. It’s been quite a load off.”

Holding On to Memories of Amie

Even now, Drew keeps photos of Amie in his home. “She’s with me always,” he said.

“Sometimes when I’m thinking things through, it’s almost like I can hear her voice telling me, ‘Well, really, it’s because of this and that.’ It’s really nice, honestly.”
