When asked about her most memorable kissing scenes, Barrymore didn’t hesitate to bring up Sandler.
But rather than highlighting steamy on-screen moments, she reflected on their deep friendship.
“I love that Adam and I are so purely platonic,” said Barrymore, who is set to turn 50 this month.
“We never dated, and his wife, Jackie, is actually a dear friend of mine.
What we have in movies isn’t just about romantic chemistry—it’s about real admiration for each other.”
Barrymore and Sandler’s collaboration has spanned decades, beginning with The Wedding Singer in 1998, which became a fan-favorite rom-com, grossing over $123 million at the box office.
They reunited for 50 First Dates in 2004, and later for Blended in 2014.
Each film showcased their effortless dynamic, though their latest effort didn’t win over critics, scoring only 15% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Adam’s Wife Is Their Biggest Fan
While some actors’ spouses might feel uneasy about their significant other’s onscreen romances, Sandler’s wife, Jackie, is quite the opposite.
“The best thing is that my wife loves Drew so much that there’s no jealousy at all,” Sandler shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in 2014. “She’s like, ‘Get in there!’”
Barrymore laughed as she recalled a moment on set when Jackie actually encouraged Sandler to step up his game.
“If you’re not being romantic enough, she will berate you behind the camera,” Barrymore joked.
Sandler confirmed this, recalling Jackie shaking her head disapprovingly during a scene from Blended.
“She yells at me! She was like, ‘For the sake of women everywhere, just get in there and look more alive!’”
Next Generation Fans
Barrymore also shared a funny moment about how their kids have become fans of their work—especially 50 First Dates.
“I’ve caught Adam’s daughter, Sunny, and my two girls, Frankie and Olive, watching 50 First Dates multiple times,” she revealed.
“I was like, ‘Really, you guys? You sure this is what you want to watch?’ And they were like, ‘Yeah!’”
The nostalgic moment hit her as she watched their children enjoying a film she and Sandler made years ago.
“It was so surreal, like our families are now connecting through our movies.”
Hoping for a Fourth Film Together
With three successful rom-coms under their belt, Barrymore is hoping for another team-up with Sandler—this time possibly with Jennifer Aniston in the mix.
“I’d love for the three of us to do something fun together,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
“Something with the vibe of Three’s Company or Death Becomes Her. It’s just about finding the right timing.”
But with her busy schedule—hosting The Drew Barrymore Show, producing a reboot of Hollywood Squares, and working on brand partnerships with MSC Cruises, Walmart, Garnier, and more—fitting in another movie may be tricky.
Still, if there’s one thing Drew Barrymore is known for, it’s making things happen.
Fans will just have to wait and see when her next collaboration with Sandler hits the big screen!
