Donald Trump urges Candace Owens to drop Brigitte Macron gender theory after Emmanuel Macron raises concern in Washington

Imagine getting a phone call from a former U.S. president—not for praise or policy, but because a foreign leader wants you to stop talking about his wife.

That’s exactly what conservative commentator Candace Owens says happened earlier this year, and she’s not keeping quiet about it.

In a newly released podcast interview with Tucker Carlson, Owens opened up about a very unexpected conversation she had with Donald Trump—one sparked by none other than French President Emmanuel Macron.

Owens Claims Trump Asked Her to Drop the Macron Gender Story

According to Owens, Trump personally called her in February to ask her to ease off on her investigation into the gender identity of France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron.

This request, she says, came after Macron made a visit to the White House and reportedly pulled Trump aside to bring up Owens by name.

Before the direct call from Trump, Owens says she was first approached by someone high-ranking in the White House, asking her to drop the topic. Owens wasn’t having it.

“I was insulted,” she told Carlson. “I made it very clear I wasn’t going to stop reporting on this story just because someone powerful asked me to.”

Macron Allegedly Pleaded with Trump Over Dinner Diplomacy

Owens recounted how Trump seemed bewildered by Macron’s concern, especially during a moment that was supposed to be focused on weightier matters like the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

“Trump said Macron literally pulled him aside and asked, ‘Do you know Candace Owens?’” she recalled. “He looked confused.

He said, ‘You must be a very powerful person, Candace.’”

She said Trump tried to persuade her to reconsider, even suggesting that her coverage was upsetting to Brigitte Macron.

“He told me, ‘She’s old and this is really impacting her,’” Owens claimed. “He said, ‘I had dinner with her at the Eiffel Tower.

She looks like a woman to me.’”

Owens Responds with Bold Refusal

Despite the pressure, Owens said she couldn’t commit to silence, even if the issue was causing diplomatic tension.

“I told him, ‘Respectfully, Mr. President, it’s not my fault he married somebody with a penis,’” she claimed she said during their call.

Trump, according to her account, emphasized that backing off could help his efforts in resolving the Ukraine war—but Owens was clear she wasn’t about to cave for convenience.

The Story That Sparked a Firestorm

The controversy stems from a conspiracy theory that Brigitte Macron was born male, under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux, and later transitioned.

Owens has leaned into this theory heavily on her podcast, claiming to have gathered evidence alongside French journalists.

After parting ways with The Daily Wire, Owens released a lengthy six-hour series outlining her investigation.

The content went viral—so much so that podcaster Joe Rogan even chimed in with his take.

“Macron’s a man,” Rogan joked on his show in March. “She got me hook, line, and sinker.”

Legal Action Heats Things Up

Things didn’t stop at words. In July, the Macrons filed a lawsuit against Owens in the U.S., led by attorney Tom Clare.

The lawsuit blasted her for spreading “outlandish, defamatory and far-fetched fictions” for fame and profit.

A representative for Owens pushed back hard. “Candace Owens is not shutting up,” the statement read.

“This is a foreign government attacking the First Amendment rights of an American journalist.”

A Fight Over Free Speech or a Dangerous Game?

While critics argue that Owens is fueling harmful conspiracy theories, her supporters say she’s standing up for press freedom against powerful political figures.

The saga has grown well beyond niche internet drama—it’s now a full-blown international spat that has pulled in a former U.S. president, a foreign head of state, and the global podcasting world.

What’s next in this unfolding story? Owens seems ready to keep going, lawsuit or not.

And if her past is any indication, she won’t be hanging up her mic any time soon.
