Donald Trump Rebukes NATO Allies on Truth Social for Buying Russian Oil While Threatening Major Sanctions on Russia

Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday to deliver a blistering message to NATO allies, accusing them of undermining negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The former U.S. president criticized countries for continuing to buy Russian oil, saying it weakens their bargaining power with Moscow.

Major Sanctions on Russia Hinged on NATO Action

Trump insisted that he is ready to impose “major sanctions” on Russia, but only once all NATO nations agree and stop purchasing Russian oil.

“NATO’s commitment to WIN has been far less than 100%, and the purchase of Russian Oil, by some, has been shocking!” he wrote.

The post emphasized his view that coordinated international action is critical to ending the war quickly and saving lives.

Bold Plan Targeting China

In the same message, Trump floated a plan to impose 50–100% tariffs on China, which he said would be fully lifted once the Russia-Ukraine conflict ends.

He argued that these tariffs could weaken China’s influence over Russia and help bring the war to a swift conclusion.

Context of Rising Tensions in Europe

The post comes as European tensions have spiked following the downing of Russian drones in Polish airspace that were reportedly heading to a NATO base supplying Ukraine.

Trump’s statement echoed his longstanding focus on using sanctions and economic pressure as tools to curb conflict.

Trump Frames the War as Not His Own

Trump emphasized that the Russia-Ukraine war is “not TRUMP’S WAR,” claiming it would never have started under his leadership.

“It is Biden’s and Zelenskyy’s WAR. I am only here to help stop it, and save thousands of Russian and Ukrainian lives,” he wrote, noting the shocking toll of recent casualties.

Criticism of Global Alliances

Trump also directed his criticism toward China, referencing a recent military parade in Beijing hosted by Xi Jinping that showcased advanced weaponry and highlighted Moscow-Beijing-Delhi ties.

He accused the leaders of conspiring against the United States while acknowledging the U.S.’s historical support for China’s defense efforts.

Kremlin Dismisses Claims of Conspiracy

In response, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov dismissed the notion of any collusion, saying, “No one even had such a thought—none of these three leaders had such a thought.”

He added that the U.S. and Trump himself are recognized for their role in the current international situation.

Trump’s Message to China

Despite the criticism, Trump closed his post with a conciliatory note, wishing President Xi and the people of China a “great and lasting day of celebration,” highlighting the complicated mix of diplomacy and tough rhetoric in his approach.
