Nearly two years after the tragic murder of beloved South African music star DJ Sumbody, his family has finally spoken out following a major development in the case.
The recent arrest of four suspects has brought a wave of emotions, stirring up painful memories for those closest to him.
The Day That Changed Everything
DJ Sumbody, whose real name was Oupa Sefoka, lost his life in a horrific drive-by shooting on November 20, 2022, in Woodmead, Johannesburg.
The sudden and violent nature of his death shocked fans across the country and left a huge void in the local music scene.
Now, as justice seems to inch closer, the family is finding it difficult to relive the trauma all over again.
“We Are Reliving the Trauma”
In a heartfelt message released through the Be A Sumbody Foundation, the Sefoka family shared how emotionally difficult it’s been to revisit this dark moment in their lives.
“The arrest is a step toward justice,” the family stated, “but we’re reliving the trauma of his untimely passing.”
They also called on the public and media to give them space during this renewed period of grief.
It’s clear that, while progress has been made, the pain is still very raw.
Thanking the Police for Their Hard Work
The family went on to express deep gratitude to the South African Police Service.
In particular, they highlighted the work of Gauteng’s Organised Crime Unit and the Political Task Team for their relentless pursuit of the suspects.
“We extend our deepest gratitude… for their relentless efforts in pursuing justice,” they said.
“The dedication of law enforcement has been instrumental in this case.”
They also took a moment to thank South Africans—especially fans of DJ Sumbody—for their ongoing love, prayers, and support, which have served as a source of strength throughout this ordeal.
Suspects Make Their First Court Appearance
The four individuals accused of DJ Sumbody’s murder appeared briefly in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.
They face three murder charges, connected to the deaths of DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards on that fateful day in November 2022.
The case has now been postponed for further investigation, as legal proceedings begin to unfold.
