DJ Sbu, whose real name is Sbusiso Leope, has made an unexpected U-turn after announcing his resignation from Radio 2000 just days ago.
The popular radio host made headlines when he revealed his plans to leave the station, only to surprise fans by confirming he would stay for another year.
DJ Sbu’s Shocking Resignation Announcement
It all started last week when DJ Sbu took to social media to share the news of his resignation from Radio 2000.
In his post, he explained that after much thought and consideration, he had decided to step down as the morning radio host at the SABC station, even though his contract was supposed to run until March 2025.
Part of his message read: “This serves to inform you that after much reflection and consideration, I have made the decision to resign as a morning radio host at Radio 2000, part of the South African Broadcasting Corporation.”
He also hinted at a new opportunity on the horizon, saying he was preparing to launch a new breakfast show on a different platform starting in April 2025.
DJ Sbu’s Quick Change of Heart
But just days after his resignation post, DJ Sbu shocked his followers with a surprising update.
In a new post on X (formerly Twitter), he confirmed that he would be staying at Radio 2000 after all.
He revealed that he had reached an agreement for an additional 12 months, stating, “I am pleased to let you know that I will be staying with @Radio2000_ZA, having concluded an agreement for another 12 months.
Keep your ears tuned in to the big breakfast, weekdays 6-9 am.”
The SABC also confirmed his renewed contract.
SABC spokesperson Mmoni Ngubane said, “We can confirm that DJ Sbu is still with Radio 2000 and has signed a contract for 12 months.”
A Return to Radio After a Decade of Silence
DJ Sbu made his return to the airwaves in 2024 after being absent for nearly ten years.
His return was met with surprise, especially considering his dramatic exit from Metro FM in 2015.
At the time, DJ Sbu had vowed not to return to work with the SABC.
Rumors had circulated that he was let go after promoting his energy drink on air, which was reportedly against station policy.
The Mystery Behind His Resignation
There has been speculation about why DJ Sbu announced his resignation in the first place.
Many assumed he had secured a new job elsewhere, but according to a report by Sunday World, DJ Sbu may have misunderstood a standard letter sent to him and other staff members.
The letter reportedly indicated that some staff members’ contracts would not be renewed, which may have led to his initial decision to resign.
The Rumor Mill Weighs In
As DJ Sbu stays with Radio 2000 for another year, fans are left wondering about the true reasons behind his resignation and return.
Was it a simple misunderstanding, or was there something more at play? Only time will tell, but for now, DJ Sbu’s fans can continue tuning in to his big breakfast show on Radio 2000 every weekday morning.
Let us know what you think about his return! Would you have expected this change of heart?
