A video recently emerged from west Belfast that has left many people stunned and concerned.
It shows a man riding a bicycle with a young child holding tightly around his neck — all while navigating traffic in a highly unsafe way.
The footage, taken on Springfield Road, captures the man cycling the wrong way around a roundabout, putting both himself, the child, and other road users at serious risk.
Public Outrage Over Reckless Behavior
The clip quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
Viewers were shocked at the reckless behavior, especially how the child was dangerously positioned on the bike.
Comments flooded in, with many calling for action.
One person wrote, “There should be a rally against this idiot,” while another described the man as a “headcase” for endangering a child.
Many others expressed horror, with comments like, “What a disgrace… that child could have been killed.”
Police Are Investigating the Incident
Authorities have acknowledged the video and confirmed that the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is investigating.
They urged anyone with more information or dashcam footage of the incident to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting the case number CC2025052901396.
In a statement, PSNI said, “We are aware of a video circulating on social media showing an adult and a child cycling unsafely on Springfield Road.
While no official reports have been made yet, we encourage anyone who knows anything to contact us.”
A Similar Case: Father’s Dangerous Baby Stunt Sparks Outrage
This incident brings to mind a disturbing video from last year, where a father was recorded swinging his infant child dangerously through the air.
The short clip showed the man swinging the baby by the arms in what looked like acrobatic stunts — over his head, back and forth, even between his legs.
Social media users and medical professionals quickly condemned the stunt.
They pointed out that such handling puts the baby’s delicate joints at risk and could cause serious brain injury.
Why Such Actions Are So Dangerous for Babies
Doctors explained that lifting a baby by the arms without proper support can cause a “pulled elbow,” where the elbow joint dislocates.
More seriously, swinging a baby like that can lead to shaken baby syndrome — a traumatic brain injury caused when the infant’s brain moves violently inside the skull.
Dr. Stuart Fischer, a former pediatrician, warned that babies subjected to this kind of shaking might need scans like a CAT scan or MRI to check for brain injuries, which may not always be immediately visible.
Shaken baby syndrome can cause brain bruising, swelling, and even cerebral hemorrhage.
It’s a leading cause of death and long-term disabilities in infants, including cerebral palsy, blindness, hearing loss, seizures, paralysis, and learning difficulties.
The Harsh Reality: Shaken Baby Syndrome Statistics
In the United States alone, between 1,000 and 3,000 babies suffer from shaken baby syndrome annually, and sadly, about 25% of them do not survive.
Most survivors suffer permanent brain damage.
What’s especially alarming is how quickly harm can occur — just five seconds of shaking can cause injury, and the 35-second video of the father’s stunt likely inflicted far worse damage.
What Happens Next?
Both incidents highlight the urgent need for awareness around child safety.
Reckless behavior with children, whether on a bike or in dangerous stunts, can have tragic consequences.
Authorities are actively investigating the cycling case in Belfast, and the broader conversation about protecting children’s health and safety continues to grow louder.
