David Coote, the referee whose career has recently taken a major hit, has made the decision not to challenge his dismissal by the PGMOL, Mail Sport reports.
This move effectively marks the end of his time as a Premier League referee.
The Scandal That Led to His Dismissal
The controversy surrounding Coote began with the release of videos that caused significant problems for the 42-year-old official.
One of the clips appeared to show Coote making disparaging remarks about Liverpool’s former manager, Jurgen Klopp.
However, that wasn’t the only issue.
Another video surfaced, allegedly showing Coote inhaling a white powder through a rolled-up banknote.
This footage was reportedly taken during the European Championship over the summer.
The PGMOL launched an investigation, which ultimately concluded that Coote’s behavior had made his position in the Premier League “untenable.”
PGMOL’s Response to the Scandal
The organisation, led by Howard Webb, wasted no time in terminating Coote’s employment.
In their official statement, the PGMOL outlined that his actions had breached serious provisions of his employment contract, rendering his position unsustainable.
While the PGMOL acknowledged Coote’s right to appeal the decision, they expressed concern for his well-being, saying, “Supporting David Coote continues to be important to us, and we remain committed to his welfare.”
Despite this, sources close to the situation have confirmed that Coote has chosen to accept his fate rather than fight to retain his role with the PGMOL.
What Lies Ahead for Coote?
As Coote moves forward, it remains unclear what his next steps will be.
For now, it seems he’s accepting the end of his tenure in the Premier League, signaling a significant shift in his career.
