As Manchester United gears up for their Premier League clash against Leicester City this Sunday, Diogo Dalot is confident that the team is finally starting to show some much-needed progress under manager Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese defender believes that recent improvements on the pitch are visible, even if the results haven’t always reflected the team’s growing potential.
“I think you can see we’re a much better team than we were just a couple of months ago,” Dalot said.
“It’s clear that the progress is there, and when we talk about needing time, it’s not just an excuse.
We understand the pressure of playing for a club like Manchester United, where winning is the expectation every time we step on the pitch.
It’s not always easy to show progress when the results aren’t coming, but in the last few games, you can see a shift.
There’s been more variety in our play, and overall, we are improving.”
Players Take Responsibility for Club’s Future
Dalot also addressed recent comments made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a co-owner of the club, who suggested that some players were “not good enough” and “overpaid.”
Dalot didn’t shy away from taking responsibility and made it clear that the onus is on the players to improve.
“At the end of the day, this club will move forward based on what we do on the pitch,” Dalot explained.
“We all share responsibility for the club’s future and its momentum, and we are ready to take that on.
The pressure is always high at Manchester United, but that’s why we’re here.
We want to turn things around ourselves. Being 14th in the league shows that we’re not where we should be, and we need to change that.
If we want to return Manchester United to the top, we all know we need to do much better.”
A Different Feel for Change at Manchester United
Having been at Manchester United since 2018 and worked under seven different managers, Dalot is used to seeing changes at the club, but this time feels different.
The arrival of INEOS, a new approach to the club’s structure, and the focus on rebuilding gives him hope for a brighter future.
“You can feel that things are changing,” Dalot said. “Since INEOS has come in, there’s been a clear shift in how the club is approaching things.
There’s a new structure being built, and everyone can see it.
Whether you like it or not, you can notice these changes, and it’s something we haven’t seen before.
The club is clearly focused on rebuilding and getting Manchester United back where it belongs. I believe in the next few years, we can get there.”
Mount Ready for Potential Return After Long Injury Layoff
In other team news, Mason Mount could make his return to action against Leicester City after being sidelined for three months with a hamstring injury.
Amorim confirmed that the 26-year-old is in contention for a spot on the bench, having returned to training earlier this week.
It’s a promising development for United, as they look to strengthen their squad and continue their efforts to climb up the Premier League table.
