Despite a season that’s been painfully disappointing for Manchester United, Diogo Dalot remains fully confident that Ruben Amorim is the right person to lead the club back to its former glory.
Even after a tough six months capped off by a Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Dalot insists the players believe in their head coach’s vision and standards.
A Tough Season to Forget
This campaign has been the club’s worst in over half a century, culminating in that narrow 1-0 defeat in Bilbao which dashed all hopes of European football next year.
It’s been a painful journey, with results falling well short of the club’s proud history and expectations.
After the final, Amorim even said he’d be willing to leave without compensation if the fans and owners lost faith in him — a clear sign of the pressure he’s under.
Players’ Faith Remains Unshaken
Dalot, however, paints a different picture from inside the dressing room.
“I’m 100 percent sure he’s the right man,” Dalot said.
He highlighted Amorim’s daily demands, high standards, and his clear vision not just for the players but for the whole club.
Dalot acknowledges a lot of changes are happening simultaneously, but he believes the responsibility ultimately falls on the players to deliver on the pitch.
“No one else is out there trying to get results except us,” Dalot pointed out.
He also admitted that this season’s performance has been far below what Manchester United should be and what the club deserves.
Now, with a break ahead, the team must reflect and come back stronger.
Facing Hard Truths
Luke Shaw didn’t hold back either, calling on players to question whether they’re truly good enough to wear the Manchester United shirt.
Dalot agreed, emphasizing that a lack of a winning mentality is holding the team back from real progress.
“Results mean everything in football,” he said.
“When you don’t win, negativity creeps in. This season, sometimes we deserved better results, sometimes we didn’t. We need to find that consistency.”
The Road to Recovery
For Dalot, the key is building a winning mentality — a mindset that will boost confidence not only within the squad but also among the fans and the entire club.
He believes that once the team starts stringing together positive results consistently, things will improve.
“It’s hard to progress if we keep riding this rollercoaster of emotions and performances,” Dalot said.
But his faith in the club’s future remains unshaken: “Manchester United will never die in my opinion. If we want to be the team that puts Man United back on top, we have to do much, much better.”
Looking Ahead
The season closes with a home game against Aston Villa this Sunday, after which the team will head on an £8 million post-season tour across Hong Kong and Malaysia.
It’s a crucial moment for reflection and preparation — the next chapter is waiting, and Manchester United’s journey back to the top is far from over.
