It was a rough evening for the New York Giants on the field, but defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence still managed to give fans something to talk about before the game even kicked off.
Appearing during NBC’s traditional Sunday Night Football player introductions, Lawrence surprised viewers with a playful nickname that immediately set social media buzzing.
The “Sexy Dexy” Surprise
Instead of giving his standard name-and-college introduction, Lawrence leaned into humor, confidently calling himself “Sexy Dexy” when his face appeared on screen.
The moment stood out in what’s usually a routine broadcast segment, with some fans loving the confidence and others rolling their eyes at what they felt was “cringe.”
Fans React With Laughter and Groans
NFL Twitter lit up instantly. One fan posted in disbelief, writing: “One of the Giants has the nickname Sexy Dexy????” Another was all in on the fun, calling it “the best intro I’ve ever heard.”
Even broadcaster Chris Collinsworth couldn’t resist repeating the name during the game, prompting one fan to admit: “Collinsworth being dead serious saying Sexy Dexy is hilarious.”
Not everyone was on board, though. A few viewers cringed at the nickname, with one admitting they changed the channel: “I tuned in for a couple minutes, heard ‘Sexy Dexy,’ cringed, and turned it off.”
Another pleaded on social media: “I am begging Chris Collinsworth to stop saying Sexy Dexy.”
Chiefs Dominate on the Field
While Lawrence was making headlines with his intro, he struggled to make an impact once the game began.
The Giants were overpowered at MetLife Stadium as Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs rolled to a 22-9 victory.
Mahomes completed 22 of his 37 passes, racking up 224 yards and one touchdown.
On the other side, Giants quarterback Russell Wilson had a quieter night.
He completed 18 of 32 passes for 160 yards, unable to match Mahomes’ control of the game.
A Season Already Slipping Away
The loss marked the Giants’ third straight defeat of the season, adding to earlier setbacks against the Commanders and the Cowboys.
Now sitting at 0-3, the team faces a daunting challenge if they hope to turn things around.
Next week doesn’t get any easier either — they’ll be up against the red-hot Los Angeles Chargers, who are currently in strong form.
The Giants will need more than just catchy nicknames to get back on track.
