DUBAI, 8th September, 2021 – Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the Arab Youth Centre (AYC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to prepare youth leaders specialised in clean technology innovation.
This will be achieved by using the capabilities of DEWA’s Innovation Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The MoU supports the shared vision of DEWA and AYC to empower young people and build their capabilities.
The MoU aims to provide a platform for training Arab youth in clean and renewable energy technology, especially solar energy. Young people affiliated with AYC will have internship opportunities at DEWA’s Innovation Centre to develop their skills to lead the future of clean technology in the region and promote innovation in this significant sector. It will also support youth entrepreneurship and start-ups in clean technology.
The agreement was signed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, and Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Vice-Chair of the Arab Youth Centre. Officials from both sides were present.
Commenting on the MoU, Al Mazrui said, “Youths are the powerhouse of the future and the core of the human capital our Arab societies need to accelerate socio-economic development. That is why empowering youth with advanced skills, that link qualifications with the current and rising dynamics of the labour market as well as foster competitiveness of Arab countries, is fundamental in our mandate.
Accordingly, the Arab Youth Centre is always keen, with the unlimited support H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and President of the Centre, to create strategic partnerships with international organisations, multinational partners and pioneering entities that empower youth in vital sectors.”
Al Tayer stated through its Innovation Centre, DEWA will strengthen and develop the capabilities of the next generation of leaders and young innovators in clean and renewable energy technologies. This will enhance the UAE’s leadership in this promising sector and support the National Innovation Strategy, which aims to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world.
