Detroit Rapper Skilla Baby Survives Targeted Shooting Near 8 Mile Road After Gunman Fires Multiple Rounds at His SUV

It’s been a terrifying week for Detroit rapper Skilla Baby, who narrowly escaped death after being caught in what police are calling a “targeted” shooting.

The 26-year-old artist was driving near 8 Mile Road by Beech Daly, an area with deep roots in Detroit’s rap history, when gunfire erupted around 7pm on Thursday.

The Shooting Incident Near Eminem’s Old Neighborhood

The neighborhood is famously known as the same area where rap legend Eminem grew up, making it a significant spot in hip-hop culture.

TMZ reports that the shooter fired about 25 rounds at Skilla Baby’s black SUV.

The rapper, whose real name is Trevon Gardner, was hit but managed to control the vehicle before crashing into a commercial building nearby.

Quick-Thinking Bystander Helps After Attack

Luckily, a bystander witnessed the shooter speeding away and immediately called 911, while also rushing Gardner to the hospital.

Police say Skilla Baby suffered a graze wound on his head and back, a bullet wound in his hand, and an injury to his thigh.

Despite these injuries, doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

Fans Send Prayers and Support for Skilla Baby’s Recovery

News of the shooting quickly spread, and fans flooded Skilla Baby’s Instagram with messages of hope and prayers.

One wrote, “Heavenly Father please bring this man a safe healing and easy recovery in Jesus mighty name we all pray amen!” Others sent warm wishes for a swift recovery and urged him to leave Detroit for his safety.

The Motive Behind the Shooting Remains a Mystery

At this point, authorities have not disclosed why Skilla Baby was targeted.

However, the rapper has earned a reputation for promoting peace in the Detroit rap scene.

In fact, he played a key role in helping resolve a feud between fellow Detroit rappers Tee Grizzley and Sada Baby back in July 2023.

Skilla Baby’s Work Beyond Music Highlights Community Impact

Beyond his music, Trevon Gardner has been involved in local initiatives.

In 2024, he partnered with Detroit officials on a gun buy-back program aimed at reducing violence, while also helping individuals with criminal records find job opportunities.

These efforts reflect his commitment to making a positive impact on his community.

The Rise of Skilla Baby from Mixtapes to Breakout Success

Skilla Baby first caught attention after being discovered by Detroit rapper Sada Baby, releasing his mixtape Push That S**t Out Skilla in 2019.

His breakout single Womack came out in 2020, followed by his 2022 album We Eat The Most, featuring popular tracks like Icky Vicky Vibes and Tay B Style.

Celebrating Women Through His Lyrics

One of the standout aspects of Skilla Baby’s music is his strong focus on empowering women.

He’s shared in interviews that growing up around strong women shaped his perspective, and his female-positive lyrics come naturally to him.

“It’s not like I am trying to do it; it just happens naturally,” he told Rap-Up last year.
