Deputy President Paul Mashatile: Responsibilities and Key Personnel
The Office of the Deputy President of South Africa has recently announced key appointments and the delegated responsibilities for Deputy President Paul Mashatile.
This comes after a transitional period following his inauguration on 7 March 2023.
The responsibilities allocated to the Deputy President aim to ensure the effective functioning of the government in various aspects.
Deputy President’s Office Duties and Key Appointments
Following the inauguration of Deputy President Paul Mashatile on 7 March 2023, a transitional period took place involving a handover process of office duties.
The President has delegated several responsibilities to the Deputy President, ensuring a well-capacitated office with the technical skills necessary to achieve the government’s objectives.
The Office of the Deputy President has announced key appointments to support the Deputy President in his mandate.
Delegated Responsibilities of the Deputy President
The responsibilities assigned to Deputy President Mashatile include serving as the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, fast-tracking land reform, coordinating government programs for land reform and agricultural support, implementing rapid response interventions on service delivery, and troubleshooting service delivery hotspots.
Additionally, Mashatile will assist the President in rolling out the District Development Model, lead the South African National AIDS Council, serve as a special envoy on South Sudan, lead peace missions on the continent, and chair the Governance, State Capacity, and Institutional Development Cabinet Committees.
Supporting Staff in the Deputy President’s Office
To support the Deputy President in executing the functions of the government, Mduduzi Mbada will head the administration duties of the office.
Chief Directors Melene Rossouw and Vukani Mde will serve as Spokesperson and Communication, while Lerato Ntsangani will be responsible for Strategy and Special Projects.
These individuals, along with others, will form the advisory team for Deputy President Mashatile.
As Deputy President Paul Mashatile takes on these responsibilities, it is crucial for the government to ensure that he is adequately supported and equipped to effectively address the various challenges facing South Africa.
