In a fiery exchange on Loose Women this week, Denise Welch and Kaye Adams found themselves at odds over a controversial new study about weight-loss injections.
The lively debate, which took place during Thursday’s show, sparked tension between the two panellists, leading to several moments of talking over each other and a sharp back-and-forth that didn’t go unnoticed by viewers.
The Weight-Loss Injections Debate Heats Up
The discussion kicked off with the panellists diving into a recent study that claims users of weight-loss injections like Mounjaro and Wegovy tend to regain the weight much faster once they stop the treatment.
While some of the panel seemed concerned about the potential downsides, Denise, 67, took a bold stance by comparing the injections to other forms of medication, arguing that all drugs come with their own set of risks.
“I’m not qualified, but I’ve read as much as anyone about these jabs,” Denise said. “Everything has side effects.
If you look at the side effects of paracetamol, you’ll be surprised how many people die from it each week. And if this—”
But before she could finish, Kaye, 63, interjected, eager to counter her co-star’s point.
The Clash Between Denise and Kaye
The tension started to rise quickly as the two women began talking over one another.
Kaye, who had a more cautious approach to the conversation, pointed out that medications like paracetamol come with long-term studies to back them up.
“Yeah, but paracetamol has long-term studies attached,” Kaye said. “You have to say that about—”
Denise wasn’t having any of it, however.
She cut in sharply, defending her point about the injections being used for diabetes treatment for years.
“This has been used for diabetics for 30 years!” Denise fired back.
Kaye wasn’t convinced, continuing to bring up the publication in the BMJ, which had examined the effectiveness and potential risks of the weight-loss drugs.
The more the two tried to make their cases, the more they seemed to talk over each other.
Denise’s Bold Retort and Growing Frustration
As the debate escalated, Denise became increasingly frustrated.
“Did you study the COVID jab when that came out? That hadn’t been out very long,” she snapped, trying to shift the argument toward a wider point about drug approval.
Kaye, ever the counterpoint, replied, “Well, there was a lot of controversy around that, wasn’t there?”
“I had it!” Denise responded, her voice rising.
The exchange continued to spiral as Denise tried to steer the conversation toward what she saw as the effectiveness and necessity of the injections for weight loss, despite the study’s findings.
At this point, Kaye pointed out the scale of the research, mentioning the 9,000 participants in the BMJ study.
But Denise, ever the skeptic, shot back: “You’re believing that one because it’s against the weight-loss jab.”
Sunetra Tries to Calm the Situation
As the disagreement between Denise and Kaye grew more intense, Sunetra Sarker, another panellist, attempted to step in and bring some clarity to the discussion.
“But what we’re missing here is that anything that claims to cause weight loss will result in weight gain once you stop,” Sunetra offered, trying to refocus the conversation.
However, Kaye disagreed, maintaining that the study specifically found that people regained the weight much more quickly than with other weight-loss methods.
Denise, not backing down, dismissed Kaye’s point.
“Yes, but you don’t want to believe the surveys, Kaye. You just said that to me.”
Sunetra, trying to keep the peace, added her own personal experience: “We’ve all tried these diets.
I’ve done the cabbage soup diet. We’ve all been there.”
Denise Takes a Personal Swipe at Kaye
As tensions simmered, Denise delivered a zinger directed at Kaye.
“You’re just thin! We haven’t been thin!” she said, turning to Kaye with a look of exasperation.
The comment, though lighthearted on the surface, seemed to underline the personal nature of the debate and left Kaye visibly taken aback.
Reactions from Fans and Viewers
The heated exchange didn’t go unnoticed by Loose Women viewers, who quickly took to social media to share their thoughts.
While some fans supported Denise, praising her for being passionate and informed, others weren’t as impressed with her approach.
One viewer wrote: “Denise isn’t rude, she’s just passionate and informed.”
However, another fan criticized her behavior, adding: “Denise is so rude. She shouts over everybody.”
It seems that the debate over weight-loss injections and the side effects of medications is far from over, with the Loose Women panellists clearly divided on the issue.
As always, the show continues to spark lively discussions and differing opinions, with fans eagerly tuning in to see what happens next.
