The racing world has lost a true star with the passing of Delta Work, the beloved horse that secured multiple victories at the Cheltenham Festival.

The 12-year-old gelding, trained by Gordon Elliott, was known for his consistency and brilliance on the track.

His sudden death, caused by a bout of colic, has left many in the racing community heartbroken.

Delta Work’s Legacy in Cheltenham and Beyond

Delta Work was a three-time Cheltenham Festival winner, having claimed victory in 2018, 2022, and 2023.

His remarkable career included five Grade 1 wins, and he was an iconic figure in the racing scene.

His first triumph at Cheltenham came in 2018 when he won the Pertemps Final.

A notable victory followed in 2022 when he outperformed his stablemate, Tiger Roll, in the Glenfarclas Chase.

He successfully retained that title in 2023, further cementing his status as one of the greats.

A Strong Contender at the Grand National

Delta Work’s legacy extends beyond Cheltenham.

He was also a prominent figure at the Grand National, finishing third in 2022 and then placing second in 2023, narrowly missing out on the victory.

His consistent performance at top-tier events made him a beloved horse among fans and racing professionals alike.

Gigginstown House Stud Pays Tribute to Delta Work

The team at Gigginstown House Stud, the owners of Delta Work, expressed their deep sorrow at the loss of the horse.

Eddie O’Leary from Gigginstown praised Delta Work as “an unbelievable horse” and reflected on how fortunate they were to be associated with him.

O’Leary also commended Gordon Elliott, stating that their partnership was “brilliant” and that Delta Work was “so versatile, so honest, and so sound.”

A Heroic Career Cut Short

Unfortunately, despite efforts to save him, the colic proved too much, and Delta Work passed away shortly after a failed surgery.

Gordon Elliott, visibly emotional, shared the news on social media, calling Delta Work “a hero” and an “absolute superstar.”

The loss has left a void in the racing community, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

With 12 victories and countless memorable moments, Delta Work’s legacy will live on as one of the finest horses to have ever graced the racetrack.
