Talk about betting big. The San Antonio Spurs just made a major move that signals their full commitment to building something special.

Star point guard De’Aaron Fox has agreed to a massive contract extension—and it’s one of the priciest in the NBA right now.

Four Years, $229 Million—Fox Levels Up in San Antonio

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Fox and the Spurs have agreed on a four-year, $229 million max extension.

That jaw-dropping deal will make him one of the highest-paid players in the league, with an average salary of $57.25 million per year. On

ly Jayson Tatum, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Anthony Davis are currently ahead of him on that list.

This new extension kicks in after next season, where Fox is still set to earn about $37 million in the final year of his previous $163 million deal he signed with the Kings.

A Fresh Start That’s Only Just Beginning

Fox, now 27, landed in San Antonio last February in a multi-team trade and played just 18 games for the Spurs before a left pinky injury forced him to shut things down.

Despite the shortened stint, he made an impression—averaging 19.7 points and 6.8 assists per game during that run.

San Antonio clearly liked what they saw. And despite the injury setback, they’ve now locked him in as a key part of their future.

A Rough Year, but Big Hopes Ahead

Last season wasn’t easy for the Spurs. Not only did Fox get sidelined, but their rising superstar Victor Wembanyama also missed a chunk of time with a blood clot in his right shoulder.

San Antonio finished the year 34-48, falling short of the play-in tournament.

But the silver lining? The Spurs got lucky in the Draft Lottery, landing the No. 2 overall pick.

Meet Dillon Harper: Fox’s New Backcourt Partner

With that No. 2 pick, the Spurs selected Dillon Harper, a standout guard from Rutgers.

The plan is clear—pair Fox and Harper to create a dynamic backcourt duo. If both stay healthy, they could quickly become one of the most exciting tandems in the league.

Fox on the Mend and Ready to Lead

The good news for Spurs fans is that Fox is expected to be fully healthy by the start of next season, following surgery on his injured finger. With his recovery on track and a new contract in place, expectations are sky-high.

The Spurs now have a seasoned floor general in Fox, a generational talent in Wembanyama, and a promising young rookie in Harper.

Add that to Coach Popovich’s leadership, and the Spurs might be ready to surprise a few people.
