Davina McCall opens up about brain surgery struggles and questions whether fiancé Michael Douglas still wanted to be with her in the UK

TV presenter Davina McCall has shared an emotional side to her recovery journey, revealing that brain surgery left her questioning her relationship with fiancé Michael Douglas.

The 57-year-old, who had a rare colloid cyst removed last year, admitted the months following her operation were far tougher than she expected.

Living With a Rare Diagnosis

Back in November, Davina told fans that doctors had found a colloid cyst — an unusual growth that affects just three in a million people.

Surgeons moved quickly to remove it, warning that it could cause serious issues if left untreated.

The operation was a success, but Davina explained that the after-effects, particularly on her memory, made her feel like a different person.

Fears About Her Relationship

Speaking tearfully on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast, Davina confessed she sometimes worried whether Michael still wanted to be with her.

She recalled asking him the same questions over and over within half an hour, which understandably left him needing space.

“I thought, ‘Oh, he doesn’t want to be with me,’” she admitted.

But when the couple finally sat down to talk, Michael reassured her with a mix of honesty and humor. “He said, ‘What are you talking about? I love you.

You’re just a bit annoying at the moment.’ And I laughed so hard with relief.”

Fighting to Feel Like Herself Again

Davina described the first six months after surgery as unexpectedly difficult.

She had been prepared for the procedure itself but not for the lingering impact on her memory.

“I just thought life would go back to normal quite quickly, and I didn’t go back to normal,” she explained.

At times, she wanted to shout: “Please remember me. I’m still here. I promise you, I’m not going to be this annoying forever.”

A Love That Endured the Strain

Through it all, Michael stayed by her side. His support became especially meaningful when, just recently, he proposed.

The pair, who first met as friends before falling in love after Davina’s divorce, now look forward to their future together.

Friends say Davina has been quietly wearing her engagement ring in private, with those close to her thrilled about the news.

“They really do make the most gorgeous couple,” one friend shared.

Looking Ahead With Hope

Davina and Michael went public with their relationship in 2018, and by 2023 he had moved into her home.

Now, with their engagement, the couple are ready to embrace a new chapter.

For Davina, opening up about her health struggle wasn’t just cathartic — it was a way of showing that love and patience can endure even the hardest challenges.
