Australian comedian Dave Hughes just gave fans a peek inside one of the year’s most glamorous weddings—Mel B’s big day with longtime partner and hairstylist Rory McPhee.
And let’s just say, it was anything but a typical ceremony.
The 54-year-old funny man attended the star-studded event at London’s historic St Paul’s Cathedral, and naturally, he couldn’t resist sharing the behind-the-scenes drama, laughs, and unforgettable memories.
From The Masked Singer to St Paul’s Cathedral
Dave first met Mel B and Rory during filming for The Masked Singer Australia, and the trio clearly hit it off.
When the invite to their wedding landed in his inbox (eventually), Hughesy and his wife Holly were all in.
Posting to Instagram, Dave shared a charming selfie with the bride and Holly, a funny video of their Tube ride to the wedding (yes, even celebrities take public transport), and a sweet caption:
“Got to know both of them on Masked Singer and was stoked to watch them tie the knot.
All class day celebrating an all class couple. A great time had by all.”
Wedding Day Chaos and a Runaway Ring Bearer
But what didn’t make it to Instagram? Hughesy revealed to Daily Mail Australia that Mel B was fashionably late—by 30 minutes.
“I was getting a bit worried that Rory, standing there in his kilt with no undies and no bride, might be left at the altar,” he joked.
And then came the moment straight out of a rom-com: the couple’s little dog, who had one job—deliver the rings—ended up running loose inside the cathedral.
“She got lost and had to be chased around the chapel. It was hilarious!” said Dave.
Despite the hiccups, the service itself was full of touching and personal moments.
“The choir was incredible, and the vicar even dropped a Spice Girls lyric into his speech,” he added.
A-Star Reception and a Dose of British Paparazzi Snub
After the ceremony, guests were whisked away to The Shard in vintage red double-decker buses.
It was a glitzy party with celebs like Spice Girl Emma Bunton and comedian Alan Carr, who mingled easily with the crowd.
Thousands of fans and paparazzi gathered outside St Paul’s, but Hughesy couldn’t resist poking fun at himself:
“They didn’t take any pics of me. Hurtful.”
He had high praise for the famous guests though.
“Emma Bunton is just lovely, and Alan Carr was a riot. He and Holly got on like a house on fire.”
Holly Steals the Spotlight Online
Speaking of Holly, she was the talk of the internet after Dave posted their photos.
Dressed in a yellow and white floral off-shoulder dress paired with a cream fascinator, she stole the show on social media.
Fans filled the comments with admiration:
“Holly looking stunning as always.”
“Hughesy, you’re punching above your weight!”
“Holly – what a bomb! Dave – looking sharp!”
Dave, ever the good sport, responded: “I’ve had 23 years of ‘punching above my weight’ comments. I take them as compliments!”
The Wedding Invite That Almost Got Missed
Hughesy almost didn’t make it to the wedding at all.
He’d been filming I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in South Africa with no phone or email access.
It wasn’t until he got back that he found the invitation buried in his inbox.
“As soon as I saw it, I emailed straight back, ‘Yes… we want to go!’” he said.
Luckily, the wedding fit perfectly between a couple of gigs he had already planned during a holiday.
A Little Wimbledon Rant to Top Off the Trip
And just before the wedding? Hughes made headlines after a run-in with a loud spectator at Wimbledon.
He vented about it on his radio show:
“This English bloke behind us just wouldn’t shut up during the match.
Eventually I turned around and said, ‘Mate, can you just be quiet?’ Everyone around us was glad I said something.”
He followed it with a classic Hughesy zinger: “What is it with entitled English wkers?!”**
Life, Laughs, and Family
Dave and Holly have been married since New Year’s Eve 2006 and share three kids—Rafferty, 15, Sadie, 13, and Tess, 11.
While weddings, TV gigs, and tennis drama make headlines, it’s clear that the couple still love a laugh and a good story to share.
And if Hughesy’s Instagram is anything to go by, this wedding was one for the books.
