Arrowhead Stadium is saying goodbye to a familiar voice. Dale Carter, the longtime public address announcer for the Kansas City Chiefs, has resigned after the organization asked him to change his signature third-down hype call.
Carter had been the in-stadium voice of the Chiefs for 16 seasons and one preseason game, making his announcement a major moment for fans who have grown up hearing his distinctive calls.
A Red Line Crossed
Carter revealed the circumstances behind his decision in a Facebook post.
According to him, a high-ranking member of the Chiefs organization had been influenced by another stadium announcer and suggested he “experiment with different calls” on third downs.
The team also wanted to hand over some of his duties to fellow announcer Nate Herron.
“That was my red line,” Carter wrote. “I wish them the best of luck.”
His post made it clear that the decision was final and that he would not be returning to the stadium microphone.
Reflecting on 16 Years Behind the Mic
Carter expressed gratitude for his time with the Chiefs, highlighting his unwavering dedication.
“I never missed a game during that time, even going to London for a whirlwind 48 hours,” he said. “I worked every major Fall and Winter holiday.
I feel like I gave everything I had. It’s just time to close that chapter.”
He also said that his departure would allow him to focus on his political ambitions, including an attempt to be elected to county government in Missouri.
Chiefs Organization Responds
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement to The Athletic, praising Carter’s service and professionalism.
“We appreciate Dale’s dedication and professionalism as the in-stadium voice at GEHA Field at Arrowhead over the past 16 seasons,” the statement read.
“We understand and respect his decision and wish him all the best moving forward.”
A Signature Call and Fan Favorite
Carter became a fan favorite for his elongated third-down call, which consistently fired up the 76,000 fans at Arrowhead Stadium.
Even though he is leaving the PA booth, he emphasized that his respect for the organization remains strong.
“I’m thankful I got to do this,” Carter said, adding that he continues to have “tremendous respect for the organization.”
His departure comes just days before the Chiefs’ home opener for the 2025 season against the Philadelphia Eagles, a rematch of Super Bowl LIX.
