Costco surprises shoppers by bringing back the nostalgic Slice Soda after fifteen years in stores across California and the Southeast

If you’ve been craving a taste of the past, you’re in for a treat—Costco is bringing back a classic soda that fans have missed for over 15 years.

The Return of Slice Soda

Originally launched in 1984, Slice Soda was Pepsi’s response to Sprite, offering a lemon-lime refreshment with a twist—it was made with 10% real fruit juice.

This made it stand out from other fizzy drinks at the time, giving it a slightly healthier image.

Not only was the lemon-lime version a hit, but Slice also came in a variety of fruity flavors, including orange, strawberry, pineapple, fruit punch, and grape.

Unfortunately, it disappeared from store shelves in the mid-2000s, leaving fans longing for its return. Now, it’s back at Costco, and customers couldn’t be happier!

A Healthier Makeover

In its comeback, Slice is rebranding itself with a wellness-focused approach, aiming to compete with the rising trend of alternative sodas.

The updated formula is packed with prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics, all while keeping the sugar content at just five grams per can.

The brand, now owned by SujaLife instead of PepsiCo, has introduced two flavors so far: Slice Orange and Lemon-Lime Soda.

This move aligns with a broader trend in the soda industry, where even major players like Coca-Cola are launching healthier options.

In fact, Coca-Cola just introduced a prebiotic soda to rival popular brands like Olipop and Poppi.

Fans Are Excited

Social media is buzzing with excitement over the return of Slice.

One Instagram user who spotted it at a Los Angeles Costco shared, “Can’t wait to stock my fridge with this!” Another fan reminisced, “These were great soda years ago—I’ll be on the lookout!” Some are even saying the new version tastes just like they remember from years ago.

For those eager to get their hands on it, eight-packs of Slice Soda are currently available at Costco warehouses in the Southeast and California for $12.99.

A Big Change in Costco’s Food Court

But that’s not the only soda-related shake-up happening at Costco.

The retailer is making a major switch in its food court—Pepsi products are out, and Coca-Cola is coming back.

CEO Ron Vachris confirmed the change during Costco’s shareholder meeting in January.

The company originally made the switch from Coca-Cola to Pepsi back in 2013 to keep the price of its beloved $1.50 hot dog and soda combo affordable.

That price has been locked in since 1985, and despite inflation, Costco insists it will stay that way.

The Pepsi vs. Coca-Cola Rivalry Continues

For decades, Pepsi and Coca-Cola have battled for dominance in the beverage world, though the last time their market shares were nearly even was in the 1980s.

Retailers like Costco typically sign exclusive contracts with one brand at a time, meaning customers can’t have both options at the food court.

While some shoppers may be disappointed by the switch, others are thrilled to have Coca-Cola back.

Either way, it’s clear that Costco is keeping things fresh—whether it’s through nostalgic soda comebacks or major food court updates!
