Cops Arrest Man Who Crashed U-Haul into White House Security Barriers, Charge Him with Threatening the President and Vice President
A man who deliberately crashed a rented U-Haul box truck into security barriers near the White House has been charged by the police with multiple offenses, including threatening to kill or harm the president and vice president.
Incident Details:
The incident took place in Washington, DC, where law enforcement officers apprehended the driver of a large U-Haul truck that collided with security barriers close to the White House.
Remarkably, no injuries were reported following the crash, which occurred around 10 pm.
The authorities promptly assessed the truck to be safe, ensuring there was no immediate danger.
Discovery of Nazi Flag:
Inside the truck, authorities discovered a Nazi flag prominently featuring a large swastika.
A local photojournalist captured footage showing a law enforcement officer folding up the flag that had been openly displayed on the ground.
Charges and Investigation:
The Secret Service confirmed that charges would be filed by the US Park Police, with support from the Secret Service itself.
Anthony Guglielmi, the chief of communications for the Secret Service, stated via Twitter that there were no injuries to any Secret Service or White House personnel.
The cause and circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
Temporary Closures and Evacuation:
As the incident unfolded in Lafayette Square, several roads and walkways were temporarily closed while the scene was examined.
Additionally, at the request of the Secret Service, the nearby Hay Adams hotel was evacuated for precautionary reasons.
Reckless Actions of the Driver:
Following the initial collision, the driver of the truck proceeded to strike the barriers once again.
Video footage of the incident revealed the driver’s persistent attempts to move forward after the initial crash.
Official Statement by the Secret Service:
The Secret Service released an official statement on Monday night, explaining that their uniformed division officers had apprehended the driver after the box truck collided with security barriers.
The statement emphasized that there were no injuries to Secret Service or White House personnel, and investigations into the cause and manner of the crash were ongoing.
Meanwhile, road closures and pedestrian walkway closures were implemented as part of the ongoing investigation.
While President Biden was present in the White House during the incident, the property boasts extensive security measures that safeguard against intrusions.
Nonetheless, the incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing importance of maintaining high levels of security at sensitive locations like the White House.
