What was supposed to be just another ride home turned into a terrifying ordeal for comedian Simthande Myeza.
The rising performer, known for his humor and charm on stage, has become the center of a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked both fans and fellow entertainers.
Ride-Share Trip in Umbilo Takes a Dark Turn
According to a statement from the Myeza family, the comedian was abducted on Tuesday evening, June 17, while using a Bolt ride service in the Umbilo area of Durban.
Simthande had ordered the car like anyone else would—but things quickly spiraled.
As soon as he noticed the vehicle veering off route, he asked the driver to turn around.
That’s when the situation escalated.
The driver allegedly became agitated, pulled over, and was joined by two more men.
One of them pointed a gun at Simthande, while the other blindfolded and tied him up.
Kidnapped, Threatened, and Humiliated
Simthande was driven to an unknown location where the kidnappers took control of his phone and accessed his bank accounts, draining him of everything he had.
It was only after they discovered his identity that the situation became even more sinister.
The men allegedly began making ransom calls to his family, friends, and colleagues—demanding money in exchange for his safety.
But the horror didn’t stop there. After receiving the ransom, they reportedly forced Simthande to strip and filmed him performing humiliating and degrading acts.
Photos and videos were taken, adding emotional trauma to an already terrifying situation.
Released Under Threat and Fear
In the early hours of the following day, Wednesday, June 18, the abductors arranged for Simthande to be taken back home.
But before letting him go, they made one final threat—they warned him not to speak out or try anything “stupid,” making it clear they knew where he and his family lived.
Understandably shaken, Simthande has since been reunited with his loved ones and is now in a secure location, surrounded by family and close friends.
Family Speaks Out and Police Begin Investigations
Lomsongaka Myeza, speaking on behalf of the family, confirmed that the case has been reported to the police.
While investigations are underway, the family has asked for privacy as they process what happened and continue to support Simthande through this traumatic time.
This deeply unsettling event has raised serious questions about safety in ride-hailing services and the disturbing rise in targeted attacks on public figures.
Support continues to pour in from fans, friends, and the entertainment community, all hoping for justice and healing.
