What started as a sugar dating connection quickly spiraled into something much darker.

A Colorado dentist, James Craig, is now standing trial for the alleged murder of his wife—and the courtroom has been hearing some jaw-dropping testimony.

According to multiple women Craig met online, what began as flirtation and generosity soon turned into disturbing conversations about death, poisons, and impossible relationships.

A Sugar Site Romance with a Sinister Edge

Carrie Hageseth, a single mom and Lyft driver, took the stand on Wednesday to describe how she met Craig on the dating site Seeking.com in the fall of 2022.

At first, he came across as a generous and charming man—he bought her daughter a $9,000 car, paid for Christmas gifts, helped with legal bills for her divorce, and funded hotel stays.

But the conversations started to shift.

Hageseth said Craig brought up the movie The Purge—a dystopian film where people are allowed to commit murder for 24 hours without consequences—and ominously connected it to his own situation.

Though he never named his wife directly, Hageseth recalled him talking about injecting someone with a substance like potassium chloride to kill them without leaving a trace.

“It would be one injection,” she quoted him saying.

Fantasies About Freedom from Marriage

Craig had told Hageseth that he was married but “separated,” later admitting that wasn’t true.

He confided in her about how difficult and expensive it would be to divorce his wife, Angela, claiming that the financial hit would leave him as broke as she was.

That’s when things took a darker turn.

She testified that Craig once asked her if she “knew anyone who could help him with his problem down here,” offering to “pay handsomely.”

Hageseth believed “the problem” was his wife. Her sarcastic response?

“I think you should hit up a homeless person—basically find somebody that doesn’t have much to lose.”

Their relationship ended on February 18, 2023, just days before Craig began seeing another woman: Karin Cain, a Texas orthodontist he met at a dental conference in Las Vegas.

The Other Woman From Las Vegas

Cain also took the witness stand earlier in the week.

She described her own whirlwind relationship with Craig, believing him when he claimed to be almost divorced.

He continued to pursue her—sending affectionate messages and photos—even as, prosecutors allege, he was in the process of poisoning his wife.

Cain testified through tears, explaining that Craig was still calling and texting her, even as his wife lay dying in March 2023.

Another Sugar Dating Connection Speaks Out

But Hageseth and Cain weren’t the only women Craig was involved with.

On Wednesday, Jordan Ivey also testified.

She met Craig on Seeking.com in October 2022, and their relationship lasted until January 2023.

According to Ivey, Craig paid for fancy meals, gave her spending money, and even whisked her away on a vacation to Montana.

He was open about being married, but repeated the same narrative—he was deeply unhappy at home and thinking about divorce, although he said it would be difficult due to “the kids and money.”

She recalled one conversation in December 2022 where he brought up divorcing his wife.

Her response? “Is that something you’re sure you want to do? Don’t do that because of me.”

Despite his frequent texting, declarations of affection, and even sending her photos of his children, Ivey never saw the relationship as serious.

“It felt more serious to him than it did to me,” she told the court.

The Alleged Murder and the Charges

James Craig, 47, is accused of killing his 43-year-old wife, Angela, in March 2023.

Prosecutors say he secretly poisoned her protein shakes with a deadly combination of cyanide, arsenic, and tetrahydrozoline—a chemical commonly found in eyedrops.

Authorities believe his motivations were tied to financial pressures and his web of extramarital affairs.

They argue he wanted to be free from his wife—but couldn’t afford a divorce.

Craig’s defense, meanwhile, has painted a drastically different picture.

They argue that Angela had a history of mental health issues and may have been suicidal.

They also suggest Craig’s romantic escapades were not unusual and did not serve as motive for murder.

What Comes Next in the Trial

As the trial presses on, more witnesses are expected to testify—possibly offering deeper insight into Craig’s mindset and the final days of his wife’s life.

The courtroom remains tense, and all eyes are on whether the jury will believe this was a man driven to desperation—or one who coldly plotted his wife’s death for love and freedom.

The trial resumes Thursday.
