Colin Jost shocks Ryder Cup audience in New York as Saturday Night Live star cracks Arnold Palmer joke while covering Team USA struggles

Sports fans tuning into Ryder Cup coverage on Sunday were greeted with something they probably didn’t expect: a comedy routine.

Instead of the usual serious golf talk, Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost kicked things off with a few eyebrow-raising jokes—one of which landed him in some very risky territory just minutes into the broadcast.

Jost Tries to Lighten the Mood

For Team USA, the Ryder Cup has been nothing short of brutal.

The Americans have been struggling, and golf fans have been in no mood for laughter.

But Jost, who was hosting T-Mobile’s Breakfast at Bethpage YouTube stream, wasted no time in trying to put a humorous spin on the grim outlook.

“Let’s be honest, folks—it’s been rough watching Team USA,” he joked.

“Like hairstyles at a Long Island prom, it’s been a total blowout.”

A Risky Arnold Palmer Punchline

Then came the gag that really stirred things up.

Jost claimed that America’s chances of winning were “longer than Arnold Palmer’s penis”—adding that it was something he “heard from the President of the United States.”

The remark wasn’t random. Former President Donald Trump has previously made jaw-dropping comments about Palmer’s private life, and those remarks did not sit well with the late golfer’s family.

Trump’s Controversial Remarks Resurface

Trump, speaking at a rally in Palmer’s hometown of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, last year, called the golf legend “all man.”

He even went so far as to recount stories from locker room showers, implying Palmer left quite an impression on fellow pros.

Palmer’s daughter, Peg Palmer Wears, was outraged at the time, calling the comments “disrespectful and inappropriate.”

She criticized Trump for dragging her father’s name into unrelated issues.

It wasn’t even the first time Trump made such claims—journalist Maggie Haberman’s book Confidence Man alleges that he once bragged to guests about seeing Palmer disrobe in a golf locker room.

Jost Pushes the Humor Further

Back on Sunday’s Ryder Cup stream, Jost didn’t stop after the Palmer line.

He kept up the comedic commentary about the shifting atmosphere at the event:

“On Friday, the vibe was electric. On Saturday, it was nervous. And today? Honestly, it feels more like—‘hey, want to see a dead body?’”

Right after that, the livestream abruptly went dark.

While some viewers wondered if the jokes triggered an editorial shutdown, reports suggest it was simply a technical glitch.

The State of Play for Team USA

Beyond the laughs and awkward jokes, the reality is grim for American fans.

Heading into the final day of competition, Team USA trailed Europe by seven points.

With the Europeans needing only 3.5 more points to keep the trophy, the chances of a comeback looked slim.
