If you stepped outside in Gauteng this morning and felt that chilly nip in the air, you’re not imagining it.

Residents across the province woke up to crisp winter air under partly cloudy skies—and that wintry feeling is here to stay for a bit longer.

Johannesburg and Pretoria Keep Things Cool

According to the South African Weather Service, don’t expect much of a warm-up today.

Pretoria is looking at a high of around 22°C, while Johannesburg will hover slightly lower at 21°C.

That’s cool enough to keep the jackets on, especially if you’re heading out early in the morning or later in the evening.

No Rain, But No Warmth Either

Even though skies are relatively clear and no significant rain is expected over the next few days, don’t count on the sunshine to warm things up much.

Weather forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela confirmed that cool to cold conditions will dominate, especially during early mornings and after sunset.

“The max temps will mostly stay in the lower 20s,” he explained. “It’s classic mid-winter stuff.”

A Slight Warm-Up Might Be Coming

There is a bit of good news on the horizon.

By Tuesday, Pretoria could see temperatures sneak up to 24°C, while Joburg will still be a bit cooler, but not dramatically so.

So while we might not be packing away the winter coats just yet, there’s a chance of slightly milder afternoons midweek.

Bundle Up in the Mornings

Gauteng locals are being advised to dress warmly in the mornings and stay alert to how quickly temperatures drop in the evening.

Those big daytime swings can catch you off guard if you’re out late or up early.
