Cleric Tasks Parents On Moral Upbringing Of Children

Moral values in the society seem to be deteriorating by the day.

Staff reporter, Njideka Okoye, who sampled people’s opinions on the causes and possible solutions to reverse the trend  reports that a clergyman and the Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa, attributed moral decadence in the society to lack of parental upbringing.

Venerable Okwuosa regretted that some parents devote little or no time to training their children as they leave home for businesses early and come back late, living the children in the hands of house helps, who sometimes make the children grow wild.

He reminded parents that their highest investment is when they train their children to become responsible members of the society, urging them to balance their work load and devote more time to their primary responsibility of child up bringing.

Venerable Okwuosa listed some of the values militating against moral values to include the so called civilization and peer pressure, noting that the Church and teachers have roles to play in restoring moral values in the society.

For a parent, Mr. Nzube Onyeka, there is gross reduction in moral standard among the present generation, noting that moral decadence is affecting societal values, beliefs, norms and ethical standards.

A mother, Mrs Ebele Iky-Odili, attributed low moral standard in the society, especially among the young ones, to social media and blamed parents who bought smart phones to their under aged children, who in turn enter into different sites not good for their age and will like to practice what they saw, not minding their age.

Mrs Iky-Odili called on parents to instruct their children on what is good for them and start early to inculcate good morals in them so that they will grow up as responsible members of the society.
