This October, Birmingham’s St Andrew’s Stadium will host a star-studded charity football match aimed at helping children experiencing homelessness.
The event, called Game4theChildren, promises not only footballing action but also a powerful reminder of the positive impact sport and entertainment can have on society.
A Lineup Packed with Legends
The match will feature an exciting mix of former football greats and popular entertainment personalities.
Four-time Champions League winner Clarence Seedorf and Arsenal’s legendary goalkeeper Jens Lehmann will lead the footballing stars, alongside Gael Clichy, Rachel Yankey, Des Walker, Mark Noble, and
Organisers promise more participants will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Raising Funds and Awareness
Game4theChildren is more than just a match — it’s a mission to raise vital funds for homeless children across the UK, with proceeds going to Shelter and the Birmingham City Foundation.
Seedorf, a long-time advocate for using sport as a force for good, said, “Sport is a catalyst for creating a more inclusive, peaceful, equitable and responsible society.
Initiatives like Game4theChildren are more than welcome and effective, and I’m happy to contribute with my presence.”
The Scale of the Challenge
Child homelessness remains a pressing issue in England.
Government data shows nearly 170,000 children are living without stable homes or in temporary accommodation, with estimates from Shelter suggesting that number could rise to 206,000 by 2029 if urgent action isn’t taken.
Birmingham’s Commitment
Birmingham City Football Club, owned by American investors Knighthead with NFL legend Tom Brady as a minority owner, hopes the funds raised will allow their charity arm to make a tangible difference in some of the city’s most deprived areas.
The event is being organised by Legends, the group behind successful initiatives like Game4Grenfell, Game4Ukraine, and The Sir Bobby Robson Trophy.
A Game With a Purpose
Blues CEO Jeremy Dale emphasised the importance of the match: “Child homelessness is a societal issue that is constantly around us.
By using the power of football and entertainment, we can shine a spotlight on the scale of the issue while celebrating the great work being done to help improve lives. This is more than a game of football — it’s about changing and improving lives.”
