City of Cape Town Announces Planned Water Supply Interruptions Affecting Khayelitsha High-Lying Areas Cape Town CBD and Surrounding Estates

If you live in Cape Town, it’s a good idea to stock up on water this week. The City of Cape Town has announced planned maintenance across several areas, which will temporarily disrupt water supply

. Here’s what you need to know to avoid getting caught off guard.

Khayelitsha High-Lying Areas to Face Temporary Outage

In Khayelitsha, residents in high-lying neighborhoods like Kuyasa, Harare, Litha Park, Ndlovini, Nkanini, and Zwelitsha should prepare for water shortages.

Maintenance work will take place on Tuesday, 26 August, with water supply affected from 10:00 to 17:00.

During this time, residents may experience anything from low water pressure to no water at all.

Water Shutdown in Cape Town CBD

The city will also be working in the Cape Town Central Business District.

Maintenance teams will conduct a temporary test shut-off on the water main along Lower Bree Street, stretching from Hans Strydom Avenue to the Cul-De-Sac.

This will happen on Tuesday, 26 August, between 9:00 and 18:00, leaving residents and businesses along the affected street without water while a new connection is installed.

Lansdowne Estates to Experience Water Supply Interruption

On Wednesday, 27 August, maintenance crews will temporarily shut off the 535mm water main along Turfhall Road in Lansdowne.

Areas like Mountview Estate, Hatton Estate, Belthorn, and Penlyn Estate will be affected between 9:00 and 18:00.

Residents are advised to plan accordingly.

Delft Residents to Prepare for Valve Assessments

In Sun Valley and Delft, water supply will be paused on Wednesday, 27 August, from 10:00 to 17:00.

This temporary shutdown allows teams to perform valve assessments on the local water network, ensuring future reliability.

Zero-Pressure Tests to Cause Additional Interruptions

The City will also conduct zero-pressure tests (ZPTs) and conditional assessments that may temporarily disrupt water supply in several other areas:

  • Tuesday, 26 August, 10:00 – 16:00: Lot 3 Bellville, bounded by Robert Sobukwe Drive, Kasselsvlei Road, Industry Road, Kosmos Street, and surrounding areas in Bellville South.

  • Wednesday, 27 August, 10:00 – 16:00: Belmont Park, Eikendal, Kleinbegin, and Summerville.

These tests help ensure the city’s water network remains efficient and safe.
