Douw Steyn, the renowned insurance tycoon and property developer, passed away on February 4, 2025, at the age of 72 after a long illness.

Christall Kay, who had once been in a romantic relationship with him, posted a heartfelt message on social media, remembering the good times they shared together.

She wrote, “We did life together for a while, both the triumphs and tragedies… You will always be a true inspiration and hold a special place in my heart!”

However, the post quickly drew backlash, with many questioning the nature of their relationship, especially considering Steyn’s marriage to Carolyn at the time of his death.

In response to being labeled as a “side chick,” Christall defended herself, stating, “He was my love too.

I never got to say goodbye.” She also clarified that Steyn’s family and his wife were aware of their engagement at the time, revealing that they were engaged during their relationship.

She added, “I stepped away to make my own life, but I will always hold him dear.”

Douw Steyn’s Relationship History

Before his relationship with Christall, Douw Steyn had a complicated history of relationships.

He met Carolyn, his now-wife, in the late 90s, and the two married in 2003 at the Saxon Hotel.

However, the marriage was short-lived, ending just six months later, with Carolyn later claiming that the split sent her into psychiatric care.

Steyn’s next relationship was with Donne Botha in 2005, whom he got engaged to that same year.

The couple exchanged rings in a 2007 ceremony in London, but their relationship also ended in 2009 under difficult circumstances.

Donne accused Steyn of physical abuse, though her claim for half of his estate was dismissed in court, as the couple had not legally married.

After his split from Donne, Steyn reportedly started dating Christall Kay.

The Real Housewives star has said that Steyn supported her music career, and they even traveled to the U.S. together. She also stated that Carolyn, Steyn’s former wife, was aware of their relationship.

Despite the ups and downs in his personal life, Douw and Carolyn reunited in 2013.

Carolyn confirmed their reconciliation on Instagram, sharing their “love story” and describing Douw as the man of her dreams.

She wrote, “I always tell Douw that he has become the man of my dreams—kind, generous, loving, complimentary.”

Carolyn also shared how Douw expressed his love for her every day, and how grateful he was to have her as his wife.
