Chris Martin halts record-breaking Coldplay world tour concert in London to encourage fans at Wembley Stadium to send love to families affected by tragedy

Coldplay’s Chris Martin found himself in hot water with some fans after pausing his Wembley Stadium concert to send a heartfelt message to the family of late political activist Charlie Kirk.

The 48-year-old singer, who is currently on a record-breaking 225-date world tour, took a moment during the band’s final London show on Friday to acknowledge Kirk, who was tragically shot while speaking at Utah Valley University earlier in the week.

A Moment of Silence Turned Into a Gesture of Love

In a now-viral clip shared on X, Martin addressed the crowd of 80,000, asking fans to raise their hands “like this and send love anywhere you wanna send it in the world.”

The singer lifted his own hands into the air, prompting most of the audience to follow suit.

He continued, “And there are so many places that might need it today. So, here it comes from London.

You can send this to your brother or sister, you can send it to the families of people who’ve been going through terrible stuff. You can send it to Charlie Kirk’s family.”

Spreading Love Beyond Borders

Martin didn’t stop there. He encouraged the crowd to extend their thoughts of love universally. “You can send it to anyone’s family.

You can send it to people you disagree with, but you send them love anyway. You can send it to peaceful people in the Middle East and Ukraine and Russia. Azerbaijan and Sudan and Somalia. Anywhere you think might need love from London,” he said.

The band then began a countdown from five, with fans holding their hands in the air before launching into the next song in their set, blending music with a moment of collective reflection.

Fan Reactions and Backlash

While some praised the gesture as a heartfelt tribute, others criticized Martin for mentioning a controversial political figure during a concert.

The mix of admiration and backlash highlights how public displays of support—especially for politically charged figures—can provoke strong reactions from audiences even in entertainment settings.

Coldplay’s Tour Continues

Despite the controversy, Coldplay continues to make history with their extensive world tour, which has already drawn massive crowds across multiple continents.

The Wembley concert serves as a reminder of the intersection between music, emotion, and the public’s varied responses to celebrity activism.
