In an unexpected moment during their face-to-face meeting in February, Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn’s rivalry took a bizarre turn when Eubank Jr slapped an egg in Benn’s face.

The incident quickly became a talking point, as security had to intervene to separate the two fighters.

This act, however, wasn’t just random; it was a pointed reference to Benn’s controversial excuse for failing two drug tests before their previously scheduled bout in October 2022.

Benn claimed that his failed tests were due to contaminated eggs, which Eubank Jr used to make his statement.

The Hefty Fine and Eubank Jr’s Response

Following the incident, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) reviewed the situation and imposed a significant fine of £100,000 on Eubank Jr.

The 35-year-old boxer wasn’t pleased with the hefty penalty, expressing his feelings to Sky Sports.

He argued that the fine seemed excessive, especially when compared to the punishments given for other, more serious incidents in boxing.

Eubank Jr pointed out that even incidents like table-throwing or physical altercations, which have resulted in far less severe fines, didn’t come close to the £100,000 penalty he received.

Eubank Jr’s Unapologetic Stance

Despite the fine, Eubank Jr made it clear that he had no regrets about his actions.

When reflecting on the years of tension with Benn, he described the situation as one where “many lines have been crossed.” He further emphasized that his action was deserved, especially given Benn’s past claims regarding contaminated eggs.

Eubank Jr didn’t hold back when stating that if given the chance, he would repeat the incident, believing Benn “deserved the embarrassment.”

The Family Rivalry Resurfaces

The heated clash between Eubank Jr and Benn isn’t just about the two fighters; it’s also a continuation of their fathers’ bitter rivalry from the 1990s.

The two men’s fathers, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, fought each other twice during their careers, adding another layer to the family drama.

Now, with the highly anticipated showdown scheduled for April 26, the stage is set for a final confrontation at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where this generation’s rivalry will hopefully settle the score once and for all.
