Chidimma Adetshina, the runner-up of Miss Universe, has given fans a rare peek into her life as a mother.
The South African-born beauty queen recently shared a fun moment with her young son in a TikTok video.
The video, which was part of a viral trend, shows the toddler playfully stomping on her head while she laughs, offering a lighthearted glimpse into their bond.
This marks the first time Chidimma has publicly shared anything about her son since she participated in the Miss South Africa pageant last year.
Chidimma’s Personal Life: A Shift in Focus
In a recent interview with Sowetan, Chidimma opened up about her personal journey.
She revealed that she divorced her Nigerian ex-husband, King Sefo, in February 2024.
According to her, gender stereotypes played a key role in the end of their marriage.
Despite the challenges, Chidimma expressed gratitude for her parents’ support and her new life as a mother.
She also shared that while she didn’t anticipate becoming a mother at her age, she feels joy in raising her son.
“Although my marriage took away some of the joys of pregnancy and being a wife, I’m happy to start this new chapter with my son,” she explained.
Miss Universe Runner-Up Amidst Legal Battles
After stepping down from Miss South Africa, Chidimma quickly rose to prominence by winning the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.
In December, she went on to secure the title of Miss Universe runner-up during the international competition in Mexico.
However, her rise to fame has been marred by a legal issue.
Recently, her South African citizenship and passport were revoked as part of an investigation by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
It was revealed that her mother was not a South African citizen and was involved in identity fraud when registering Chidimma’s birth.
The Nationality Question
As a result of her mother’s actions, both Chidimma and her son are likely to face the consequences.
It’s believed that Chidimma’s son, born to her Nigerian ex-husband, may also have lost his South African nationality.
Given that her mother was not a South African citizen, Chidimma’s papers were revoked, and by extension, it seems her son’s South African citizenship may have been stripped as well.
It’s possible he now holds Nigerian citizenship, considering his father’s nationality.
However, official confirmation from the DHA has not been received.
What Does South African Citizenship Require?
According to South African law, citizenship can be granted in a few ways.
One of the main criteria is having at least one South African parent, or being born in South Africa to a parent who is a citizen or permanent resident.
Chidimma’s case doesn’t meet these requirements, as she was born in South Africa to foreign nationals who were not permanent residents, making her ineligible for South African citizenship under the country’s current laws.
