Cheslin Kolbe Scores Two Tries as Springboks Defeat All Blacks in Historic Rugby Test in Wellington

South Africa’s Cheslin Kolbe delivered a masterclass on the wing as the Springboks recorded a historic 43-10 victory over New Zealand in Wellington last Saturday.

The win marked one of the Springboks’ most emphatic performances against the All Blacks, with Kolbe scoring twice and showcasing why he remains one of the premier players in world rugby.

Multiple Try-Scorers Highlight Springboks’ Dominance

Kolbe wasn’t the only Springbok to cross the line. Damian Willemse, Kwagga Smith, RG Snyman, and Andre Esterhuizen also scored tries, contributing to South Africa’s record-breaking tally.

Each player’s performance underlined the depth and versatility in the current Springbok squad, with every try reflecting precise teamwork and individual brilliance.

Kolbe Closes in on All-Time Try Records

Playing in his 44th Test, Kolbe now shares 12th place on the Springboks’ all-time try-scoring list with former wing James Small, who scored 20 tries in 47 Tests.

With just one more try, Kolbe can equal Pieter Rossouw and Kurt-Lee Arendse’s 21-try tally.

Beyond tries, Kolbe has also added three conversions and five penalties, bringing his total Test points to 121 and placing him 24th on the Springboks’ all-time points list.

Looking Ahead: Argentina Test in Durban

Kolbe and the Springboks will look to continue their scoring streak in the next Rugby Championship Test against Argentina at Hollywoodbets Kings Park on Saturday, 27 September, with kickoff at 17:10 SA time.

Coach Rassie Erasmus named Kolbe in the 33-man squad for both the Durban clash and the following away match against the Pumas at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham.

Other Notable Try-Scoring Performances

Damian Willemse’s try in Wellington marked his sixth in 43 Tests, while Kwagga Smith reached his 11th in 57 Tests.

RG Snyman’s five-pointer was his third try in 44 Tests, and Andre Esterhuizen’s late score was only his second in 23 Tests.

These milestones highlight the contribution of both seasoned players and rising stars in South Africa’s lineup.

Springboks’ Top Try-Scorers

Kolbe now sits among an illustrious group of Springbok players who have scored at least 15 Test tries, alongside legends such as Bryan Habana (67 in 124 Tests), Joost van der Westhuizen (38 in 89 Tests), and Makazole Mapimpi (33 in 47 Tests).

Active players are marked with an asterisk, showing that Kolbe and others still have room to climb the ranks.
