Just as Chelsea gear up for what they hope will be a defining season under Enzo Maresca, they’ve been thrown off course by something completely unexpected—a high-tech camera system has mysteriously gone missing from their Cobham training ground.
Valued at around £30,000, the missing equipment plays a key role in the club’s performance tracking and tactical analysis.
And with preparations ramping up for the new Premier League season, this isn’t the kind of distraction they needed.
Police Called In After Suspicious Disappearance
According to The Sun, the club didn’t take the matter lightly.
Surrey Police were contacted after the gear vanished, and although it’s unclear whether it was misplaced or stolen, the circumstances were suspicious enough to raise red flags.
Chelsea, like many top-tier teams, rely heavily on video footage from training sessions.
The advanced camera systems help coaches fine-tune tactics and track player fitness.
So losing such equipment isn’t just a logistical headache—it’s a performance setback.
The club has so far declined to comment on when or how the issue was discovered, and full clarity might only come when staff return from their summer break.
In the meantime, Mail Sport has reached out to Surrey Police for further updates.
A Pattern of Thefts Surrounding Chelsea Stars
This incident comes amid a broader trend of unsettling security breaches involving Chelsea players over recent years.
Big names like Raheem Sterling and Reece James have previously been victims of home invasions.
Sterling’s home was targeted while he was away at the 2022 World Cup with England.
The burglars made off with £300,000 worth of Rolex watches, prompting Sterling to fly back from Qatar to support his family before rejoining the national squad.
The man behind the break-in, serial burglar Emiliano Krosi, was later jailed for 13 years in 2024.
Krosi had been linked to 32 other burglaries across the South East of England.
Reece James Also Targeted in Medal Heist
Sterling wasn’t the only one hit. Chelsea captain Reece James also experienced a traumatic burglary in December 2021, while he was playing in a Champions League match.
The intruders managed to steal a safe that included James’ Champions League winner’s medal and his Euro 2020 runners-up medal.
James later took to social media to call out the thieves, branding them “cowardly.”
These incidents have raised ongoing questions about security for high-profile athletes, especially when they’re away fulfilling club or national duties.
Jamie Carragher Isn’t Convinced by Chelsea’s Big Spending
Off the pitch, Chelsea are facing another kind of scrutiny—this time from pundit Jamie Carragher, who has questioned whether the club’s massive spending under owner Todd Boehly and manager Enzo Maresca is making any real impact.
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Carragher didn’t hold back.
Despite Chelsea spending another £250 million this summer, he said he’s still not seeing the kind of squad improvement that would push them toward the Premier League title.
“When I look at Chelsea,” Carragher said, “it feels like the team keeps changing, but there’s no real step forward.
It’s like they’re reshuffling the deck without adding any real value.”
Carragher Doubts the Squad Has Improved
Carragher did acknowledge some positives—particularly the rise of Cole Palmer, who’s been a standout performer.
But overall, he suggested there’s a lack of difference-makers among Chelsea’s wingers.
“Whether it’s Gittens coming in or Madueke leaving, it just feels like the same kind of player rotating in and out,” he said.
“There’s no real elevation. No one’s lifting the level.”
He added that while winning tournaments like the Club World Cup helps build bonds between the manager and fans, it doesn’t necessarily move the needle in the Premier League.
Season Opener Just Around the Corner
Despite the off-field distractions and pundit concerns, Chelsea’s focus will soon need to shift firmly to the pitch.
Their 2025–26 campaign kicks off on August 17 with a London derby against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.
With high expectations, a revamped squad, and growing pressure on Maresca to deliver, Chelsea fans will be watching closely to see whether this season finally brings stability—or more of the same chaos.
