After weeks of speculation, Chelsea have finally got their man.

The Blues have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jamie Gittens, ending a chase that began as soon as the summer transfer window opened.

Gittens Set for Premier League Return After Five Years Abroad

Gittens, who first left English football for Germany back in September 2020, is now set to return to the Premier League.

The 20-year-old forward originally came through Manchester City’s youth system after five years at Reading, before moving to Dortmund where he steadily climbed the ranks.

During his time in the Bundesliga, Gittens clocked up 12 goals in 72 appearances, showing flashes of the talent Chelsea have been tracking for some time.

Seven-Year Contract Agreed as Medical Approaches

While exact transfer figures haven’t been released yet, it’s been confirmed that Gittens is expected to sign a seven-year contract with Chelsea.

The deal was agreed earlier in June, and he’s scheduled for a medical this weekend to complete the formalities.

Chelsea had a £42 million bid rejected by Dortmund earlier in the window, but have now returned with an improved offer that sealed the agreement.

Why Gittens Can’t Play in Europe Just Yet

Although Gittens has already gained European experience—featuring for Dortmund in the Club World Cup—that appearance creates a bit of a hiccup.

If Chelsea make it past Benfica in the last-16, Gittens won’t be eligible to be added to their European squad this season.

Still, the club is clearly thinking long-term, banking on his future potential rather than short-term availability.

Another Bid Rejected as Chelsea Target Joao Pedro

It’s not just Gittens that Chelsea have their eye on.

Sources say Enzo Maresca’s side have also submitted a bid for Joao Pedro, Brighton’s talented 23-year-old forward.

But they’re not the only ones interested—Newcastle have reportedly lodged a bid of similar value, around £50 million, and both offers have been turned down.

Brighton are holding firm on a £60 million price tag for Pedro.

More Summer Business Already in Motion

Chelsea have already made another notable signing this summer, snapping up Liam Delap from Ipswich Town for £30 million.

The young striker adds more depth to the club’s attack as the team continues its post-Pochettino rebuild under Maresca.

With Gittens nearly across the line and more transfer activity brewing, Chelsea’s summer is heating up fast—and there’s still plenty more window to go.
