After nearly a decade in black and white, Zakhele Lepasa’s time at Orlando Pirates has officially come to an end — and now, the transfer buzz is heating up.

One of the clubs hoping to snap him up? Durban City. And they’re not shy about it.

A Fresh Chapter Beckons for Lepasa

At just 28 years old, Lepasa has found himself at a career crossroads.

Released as part of Orlando Pirates’ pre-season clear-out — which saw seven players shown the door — the striker is currently a free agent.

But with his experience and goal-scoring ability, he’s not expected to be without a team for long.

In the meantime, he’s staying match-fit with the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of the upcoming CHAN tournament, keeping him in the spotlight while clubs circle.

Durban City Keen to Make a Move

Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia has confirmed that the club is very much in the race for Lepasa’s signature.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Kadodia was full of praise for the forward, calling him a “very good striker” who could genuinely boost the squad.

“We’ve spoken to his agent and are waiting to hear back,” he explained.

“He’s worked with our coach Gavin Hunt before, so there’s already a relationship there. That could work in our favor.”

Money Could Be the Deciding Factor

While Durban City is eager, Kadodia was also realistic about the challenges. “There are other clubs interested,” he admitted.

“And in football, as you know, money talks. We might lose out if another team offers him a better deal.”

That’s not stopping Durban City from trying. Kadodia made it clear that if there’s a chance, they’re ready to act.

It’s just a matter of waiting to see what Lepasa decides.

Kaizer Chiefs Also Enter the Conversation

As it turns out, Durban City isn’t the only team looking to sign Lepasa.

He’s also been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, one of South Africa’s biggest clubs. The Soweto giants have already brought in two former Pirates players during this transfer window — and adding Lepasa could be their next statement move.

What’s Next for Zakhele Lepasa?

With interest coming from multiple directions and Lepasa still training with the national squad, the ball is in his court.

Will he reunite with Gavin Hunt at Durban City? Or will the lure of the Amakhosi prove too strong?

Only time will tell — but for now, the striker’s next move is one of the most closely watched stories of the off-season.
