CBS has now released the full, unedited version of their interview with Vice President Kamala Harris after former President Donald Trump accused the network of manipulating the footage to harm his 2024 election campaign.
Trump Files Lawsuit Over Edited Interview
This all started in October when Trump filed a lawsuit against CBS News in a Texas federal court, alleging that the network deliberately edited his interview with Harris to create a biased portrayal.
He claimed the editing was part of a broader strategy to negatively impact his presidential campaign ahead of the November 6 election.
The Full Interview Comes to Light
In the newly released unedited version, the interview begins with a lighthearted moment when Harris sneezes and jokes about being “allergic to mold.”
The full footage, which was made public by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Wednesday, shows how much of the interview was left out in the edited version aired on 60 Minutes.
Harris’ Response to Netanyahu Question Draws Attention
One of the most notable omissions from the edited interview was a lengthy response Harris gave when asked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
While CBS only aired a brief seven-second clip, the full version reveals a much longer answer, particularly on the topic of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Trump Takes Issue with CBS’ Editing Choices
Trump had expressed particular outrage over how CBS handled Harris’ response to questions regarding the Middle East conflict.
This led to a formal complaint being filed by the Center for American Rights in mid-October, accusing 60 Minutes of selectively editing the interview to misrepresent the vice president’s comments.
Although the complaint was dismissed earlier in January, the case was reopened after Trump’s new FCC Chairman, Brendan Carr, assumed his position.
CBS Responds to Claims of Editing Bias
In response to the accusations, CBS defended its editing decisions, stating that their goal was to include as much of Harris’ responses as possible while ensuring the interview was fairly represented.
They emphasized that the edited version still fairly reflected Harris’ answers to the questions asked.
