Cadbury Faces Backlash Over Twirl Multipack Shrinkage as Shoppers in the UK Express Outrage Over Price and Size Change

Cadbury Faces Backlash Over Twirl Multipack Shrinkage as Shoppers in the UK Express Outrage Over Price and Size Change

Cadbury fans are raising their voices over what they’re calling “shrinkflation,” after noticing a change in the popular Twirl multipacks.

Shoppers are upset that these packs, which used to contain four bars, now only have three—yet the price remains the same.

The complaints are flooding social media, with many feeling they’re being charged more for less. One shopper expressed their disbelief, saying, “I could not believe it!”

The New Twirl Packaging: What’s Changed?

Previously, the Twirl multipack included four sets of two bars, each weighing 34 grams, adding up to a total of 136 grams.

But now, the new packaging holds three sets of two bars, each weighing 43 grams, totaling 129 grams.

Despite the weight reduction, the price has stayed at £1.75, meaning customers are getting 7 grams less—roughly 5% less chocolate—while paying the same amount.

Angry Reactions on Social Media

The change has sparked outrage among shoppers, many of whom are voicing their discontent on platforms like X (formerly Twitter).

Some customers are even tagging Cadbury UK, calling out the company for the change.

One shopper remarked that the price increase from £1.10 to £1.75, along with the smaller multipack, was “frankly outrageous.”

Another user took to social media, saying the reduction from four bars to three was an example of “shrinkflation gone too far.”

Others are equally disappointed.

One product review on Asda’s website labeled the new three-bar multipack as “disgusting,” claiming the size change was a “rip-off” since the price remained unchanged.

A similar review on Ocado pointed out the 7-gram reduction for the same cost.

Cadbury Defends the Change

In response to the backlash, Mondelez International, the parent company of Cadbury, explained that the smaller size was due to “manufacturing constraints that cannot be easily resolved.”

They also stated that despite the slight weight reduction, the new packaging would allow the company to keep the beloved “twin-finger” format intact.

A spokesperson for Mondelez reassured customers that there were no plans to change the packaging of other popular chocolate bars, like Wispa, Flakes, or Dairy Milk.

They also emphasized that Cadbury remains committed to offering a variety of multipack sizes to suit different consumer needs.

A Rough Year for Cadbury

This latest issue with Twirl multipacks comes just weeks after Cadbury faced a similar backlash over its Drinking Chocolate.

Shoppers raised concerns about “mould” in the product, leading to a recall of certain tubs.

Though Cadbury assured customers that the affected products were safe to consume, some users shared photos of the suspicious white specks and complained about the lack of resolution from customer service.

Despite these recent controversies, Cadbury remains focused on improving the quality of its products, stating that ensuring consistency is of utmost importance.

They encourage anyone dissatisfied with the quality of their products to reach out to their customer care team.

What’s Next for Cadbury?

As the company navigates these complaints, it’s clear that customer satisfaction is at a crossroads.

With fans still reeling from the changes to Twirl multipacks and concerns over the quality of other products, only time will tell how Cadbury will regain consumer trust.
