Bulls confirm Handré Pollard’s return to Loftus Versfeld on a two-year deal following his successful international career

Pollard’s Long-Awaited Return to Loftus Versfeld

In a major announcement, the Bulls confirmed the highly anticipated return of Handré Pollard to Loftus Versfeld after stints playing in Japan, France, and England.

The Springbok flyhalf, a two-time World Cup winner, will return to Pretoria on a two-year contract, starting July 1st.

Pollard’s return is a huge boost to the team as he brings back years of international and club experience.

A New Chapter for Pollard After Years Abroad

Before leaving for Europe in 2019, Pollard had already established himself as a key player for the Bulls, making 62 professional appearances during his six years with the team.

In that time, he racked up an impressive 629 points, including 11 tries, 119 penalties, 104 conversions, and 4 drop goals.

Now, at 30 years old, he returns home with the aim of adding even more to that tally, and with a much more experienced perspective.

Pollard expressed his excitement about coming back to where it all started for him.

“I am really grateful for this opportunity,” Pollard said. “It’s something I don’t take for granted.

Being able to come home after a great few years overseas, I’m beyond excited.”

Reflecting on His Career and Homecoming

Pollard reflected fondly on his time with the Bulls, saying, “I started my career at the Bulls, and those six years played a massive role in the person and player I am today.

This team and franchise have always had a special place in my heart, and I can’t see myself anywhere else in South Africa.”

One of the things he is most excited about is the chance to run out at Loftus again in front of the loyal Bulls supporters.

Bulls Excited About Pollard’s Return

The Bulls are equally thrilled to have Pollard back.

The signing, particularly given Pollard’s previous high-earning contract at Leicester, was seen as an unexpected yet great business move.

Many assumed that Pollard would remain abroad, but the Bulls have managed to secure him on a reduced salary, which is a significant win for the team.

Edgar Rathbone, Chief Executive of BBCo., welcomed Pollard back with enthusiasm.

“It is good to be welcoming Handré back to his home, a ground he has had great memories at and a place he knows very well because of his time here back then.

He was a fan favourite back then, and we’re thrilled to bring him back.”

Rathbone noted that Pollard’s growth as a player would benefit the team greatly.

“He left us as a 24-year-old with so much to offer this game, and returns six years more mature and seasoned with a lot of time under his belt,” Rathbone said.

“He has a wealth of international and club rugby experience, which will be great for us as we continue to challenge for silverware in major competitions.”

Pollard Brings Experience and Leadership to the Bulls

Pollard’s return is especially valuable considering the age of the current squad.

His invaluable experience from international rugby, with over 80 caps for South Africa, will help mentor and lead the younger players in the squad.

Rathbone emphasized the importance of this experience, stating, “Pollard has invaluable experience, especially if you consider the average age of our group.”

As Pollard gears up to return to Loftus Versfeld, both the Bulls and their supporters are eagerly awaiting the return of one of the most talented flyhalves in rugby, ready to continue his journey with the team that helped shape his career.
