Buhari Approves Lifting Of Ban On Twitter

President Muhammadu Buhari said he has directed a conditional lifting of the ban placed on Twitter in Nigeria in June.

 

The President, who disclosed this in his nationwide broadcast to Nigerians to mark the nation’s sixty first independence anniversary, said social media remains a very useful platform but regretted that some users have misused the platform to organize, coordinate, and execute criminal activities, propagate fake news, and promote ethnic and religious sentiments.

 

He assured that his administration is committed to ensuring that digital companies use their platform to enhance the lives of Nigerian citizens, respect Nigeria’s sovereignty, cultural values and promote online safety.

 

President Buhari also announced that his administration will invest in and support pharmaceutical and research agencies to developed vaccines for COVID-19 locally, in order to address the challenge of global inequity in accessing vaccines.

 

He said he had directed the Federal Ministries of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Health, Education and Science and Technology to work with Nigerian and international pharmaceutical companies and research organizations to boost Nigeria’s domestic pharmaceutical capacity.
