Brooklyn Beckham Takes on Formula E in Miami as Part of Influencer Racing Initiative

Brooklyn Beckham, known for dabbling in various creative fields, has just added another unexpected skill to his repertoire.

The eldest son of football legend David Beckham and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, Brooklyn has ventured into a whole new world of sports.

After exploring modeling, photography, and cooking, he’s now gearing up to take on the fast-paced world of Formula E.

From Football to Fast Cars

While Brooklyn spent some time in the Arsenal youth academy as a child, it seems the world of sports never quite let go of him.

Now, at 25, he’s shifting gears yet again, this time focusing on electric motorsport.

Formula E, a racing series featuring electric cars, has tapped Brooklyn to join a group of influencers who will compete in an effort to raise awareness and attract a younger fanbase.

Raising the Profile of Formula E

Formula E, with its electric-powered cars, is looking to make a splash with the help of influencers like Brooklyn and others, including former Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero.

The idea is simple: using public figures with large followings—Brooklyn boasts a whopping 16 million Instagram followers and Agüero has 30 million—the sport hopes to captivate a fresh audience.

Formula E cars can reach speeds of 200 mph, and they accelerate 30% faster than traditional F1 cars, offering thrilling action on the track.

Preparing for the Race

The event, set to take place in Miami on March 5-6, will feature Brooklyn and the other influencers going head-to-head.

Before the race, each influencer will be paired with a professional team and driver and undergo six weeks of intensive training.

The preparation will include sessions on driving simulators, physical training, and working closely with their professional counterparts to get race-ready.

Brooklyn’s Passion for Driving

In an interview with BBC Sport, Brooklyn shared his excitement about joining the world of Formula E.

Reflecting on his love for driving, which he shares with his dad, Brooklyn said, “Like my dad, I’ve always been obsessed with driving.”

He went on to explain that his goal is to introduce Formula E to a wider audience, hoping to bring more people into the fold.

“The world is changing, and I think Formula E definitely has a chance to come close to Formula One,” he said, emphasizing his belief in the sport’s potential for growth.

Dealing with Skepticism

While Brooklyn is eager to embrace this new challenge, he admitted that he hasn’t yet shared his plans with his wife, actress Nicola Peltz.

He’s also aware of the potential skepticism from the public.

“When this comes out, people are going to think that I’m going to try and become an F1 driver,” Brooklyn acknowledged.

“But people will understand how mentally tough this sport is.

These drivers are so talented, and I’m just excited to meet them and be a part of it.”

Formula E CEO’s Optimism

Formula E’s CEO, Jeff Dodds, also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stressing that the involvement of influencers like Brooklyn is not just a gimmick.

He pointed out that the sport’s growing presence and innovative nature make it a perfect match for raising its profile.

Despite the sport’s slow start in the UK and a £36m loss last year, Dodds is confident that Formula E could surpass MotoGP in popularity by 2030.

Brooklyn Beckham’s entry into Formula E signals an exciting new chapter for both him and the sport, and with his massive following and passion for driving, it’s clear that he’s ready to rev up the engines and help bring electric racing to a whole new audience
