A heartbreaking story has unfolded on the Gold Coast, where a young British tourist was found dead after being reported missing.
Lewis Jack, a 22-year-old from Glasgow, was last seen enjoying the vibrant nightlife of Surfers Paradise on Saturday night before disappearing.
The Search and Police Update
After Lewis was reported missing, Queensland Police reached out to the public on Tuesday, hoping someone might have seen him.
Unfortunately, just hours later on Tuesday evening, the grim news came through.
The water police discovered Lewis’s body around 7:40 pm near the Isle of Capri.
Authorities have said the death isn’t suspicious.
Investigators believe Lewis accidentally fell into the water near the Isle of Capri while under the influence of alcohol, leading to his tragic drowning.
Family and Friends Mourn the Loss
The news hit Lewis’s loved ones hard. His grandmother, Margaret Mooney, shared her grief on social media, saying, “It is with a broken heart that I have to say my beautiful grandson has sadly been found.
Thank you for all the lovely words and the shares.”
Friends also expressed their sorrow and disbelief.
Gemma Robertson wrote, “I can’t believe that I am actually posting this. Lewis, you’ll never be forgotten. Fly high.”
Another friend, Jack Martin, added, “Woke up to such sad news to hear of your passing Lewis, you were such a good lad with the purest soul.”
Fiona Prude described Lewis as a “beautiful young man” and extended her sympathies to the family: “My heart breaks for all Lewis’s family. I wish we could wrap you all in our arms.
More so, I wish we could have gotten Lewis safely back to you.”
What Happened That Night
It’s understood Lewis caught an Uber from Cavill Avenue, which is at the heart of the Gold Coast’s nightlife, heading back toward his accommodation on Chevron Island.
Sadly, he never made it back. The last time he was seen, he was walking along Gibraltar Drive, which runs beside the Nerang River.
