The soap world’s biggest stars gathered in London’s Hackney Empire on Saturday night for a glittering celebration — the British Soap Awards 2025.
This year’s event marked a fabulous return after last year’s surprise hiatus, and the red carpet was packed with glamour, drama, and of course, some unexpected fashion moments.
Jacqueline Jossa Shines Bright on the Red Carpet
Leading the style stakes was Jacqueline Jossa, who absolutely stunned in a sleek strapless black gown.
The dress featured a dazzling sequined top and a daring high slit, giving her plenty of chances to show off her toned legs.
Jacqueline paired the look with classy black heels and wore her dark hair in a smooth, polished style.
It was clear she owned the spotlight and had photographers snapping away.
Familiar Faces and a Fashion Faux Pas
Joining Jacqueline were some other soap favourites, including Walford legend Patsy Palmer, Coronation Street’s Tina O’Brien, and Hollyoaks’ Jorgie Porter. But the night wasn’t without its fashion hiccups.
Both Tina and Jorgie accidentally rocked the exact same nude sequinned gown — an awkward twin moment that got a few raised eyebrows.
Still, Tina kept her smile shining as she confidently posed, while her daughter Scarlett Thomas turned heads in a stunning black ballgown.
The Big Soap Showdown: Emmerdale vs EastEnders
When it came to nominations, Emmerdale and EastEnders led the pack with 13 nods each, leaving Coronation Street and Hollyoaks trailing with 11 each.
The awards night was hosted once again by Jane McDonald, who returned to the role after stepping in a couple of years ago following Phillip Schofield’s sudden departure from ITV. Jane, a well-known soap fan, brought her infectious energy and excitement to the event.
Celebrating a Year of Drama and Milestones
The ceremony was all about honouring a huge year in British soaps — packed with storylines full of murder, mystery, breakups, makeup, trials, and tears.
It was also a moment to reflect on big moments like Gail Platt’s emotional exit from Coronation Street after 50 years and EastEnders’ 40th anniversary celebrations.
Hollyoaks shook things up by jumping a whole year into the future, while Emmerdale stunned viewers with a dramatic limousine crash on a frozen lake.
Viewers Had Their Say with Tough Choices to Make
Audience voting was fierce in categories like Best British Soap, Best Leading Performer, Villain of the Year, and Best Comedy Performance.
The Best Leading Performer nominees included fan favourites like Lacey Turner (EastEnders), Kellie Bright (EastEnders), Eden Taylor-Draper (Emmerdale), and Beth Cordingly (Emmerdale).
For Villain of the Year, viewers had to pick from characters played by Calum Lill, Navin Chowdhry, Ned Porteous, and Tyler Conti.
And the laughs came courtesy of nominees like Jack P Shepherd, Patsy Palmer, Nicola Wheeler, and Nicole Barber-Lane in the Best Comedy Performance category.
What Happened to Last Year’s Awards?
The 2024 British Soap Awards were unexpectedly cancelled just after nominations were announced, with no official explanation.
But in 2023, the show drew 5.7 million viewers in total, including strong streaming numbers on ITVX.
Jane McDonald took over hosting duties back then after Phillip Schofield left ITV under controversial circumstances, and she’s been a fan favourite ever since.
Jane McDonald Can’t Wait to Celebrate Again
Speaking about her return, Jane shared her excitement: “I’m beyond thrilled to host the British Soap Awards again.
I had such a ball last time, and being in a room full of talented actors celebrating their hard work is just joyous.
I’m ready to put on my glittery frock and party with everyone!”
ITV Praises the Impact of British Soaps
Gemma John-Lewis, ITV’s Entertainment Commissioner, emphasized the importance of the awards:
“The British Soap Awards celebrate the incredible actors and production teams who deliver gripping stories year after year.
We’re delighted that Jane McDonald, a true soap fan, is back to host this special night.”
More Than Just Viewer Votes
Besides the public voting categories, the night also featured prestigious panel-voted awards, including the Outstanding Achievement Award and the Tony Warren Award, recognising outstanding contributions to the soap industry.
