What was supposed to be a dream family getaway near Disney World ended in a terrifying ordeal for a young British mum.
Jasmine Wyld, a 33-year-old hairdresser from the UK, was allegedly attacked by her father-in-law during a heated argument that turned violent—right in the middle of a swimming pool.
Heated Row Over a Will Allegedly Sparks Attack
Jasmine was enjoying a luxurious vacation at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, Florida, when she got into a fierce dispute with 62-year-old Mark Gibbon, her father-in-law. The topic? His will.
Things quickly escalated. According to reports, Gibbon allegedly held Jasmine underwater multiple times during the argument, leaving her frightened and struggling to breathe.
Authorities say she fought back as he continued to push her down.
Brave Nine-Year-Old Jumps In to Help
In a terrifying moment no child should ever witness, Jasmine and Alex’s nine-year-old daughter reportedly leapt into the pool in an attempt to save her mum.
The child saw her grandfather allegedly forcing Jasmine’s head under the water and acted quickly and bravely.
Who’s Involved in This Shocking Incident?
Jasmine shares two children with Mark Gibbon’s son, Alex.
The couple appeared happy in Facebook photos, including one with celebrity chef James Martin.
Jasmine previously ran her own hair business, Jasmine Elizabeth Hair, which was dissolved in 2024.
Alex used to work with his father at Ultralight, a lighting company based in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
He resigned from the company in April 2023, after which Mark renamed the business MRG Lighting.
The firm has worked on high-profile projects—including music videos for Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, and Paloma Faith.
Interestingly, Gibbon is also listed as the sole director of another company, Sage Hairdressing.
What the Police Are Saying
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says the entire altercation stemmed from a disagreement about the will.
According to the deputies’ report, Jasmine told them she “could not breathe and believed she was going to drown.”
She claimed she had to physically fight Gibbon off, but he kept forcing her underwater.
He allegedly stopped only when two women nearby said they had called the police.
Gibbon Allegedly Confessed—But Says It Wasn’t Attempted Murder
Authorities arrested Gibbon on August 3, shortly after 5pm.
During questioning, he reportedly admitted to pushing Jasmine under the water but denied trying to kill her.
He told officers the two had been drinking when the argument about his will took place.
Witnesses told police they saw him hold Jasmine underwater multiple times and scratch her chest during the altercation.
Florida Sheriff Speaks Out
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd didn’t mince words when commenting on the situation.
He said, “It’s great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us.”
He added that Gibbon’s inability to control his anger might mean he’s “spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.”
Charges and Upcoming Court Date
Mark Gibbon is now facing serious legal consequences.
He’s been charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of battery, according to court filings.
He’s scheduled to appear in court again on September 9.
Jasmine Keeps Quiet For Now
Despite the incident making headlines, Jasmine Wyld has chosen not to comment publicly.
Understandably shaken, she’s now likely focused on recovering and protecting her children.
