Brisbane Neighbours Express Shock After Police Find 54-Year-Old Woman and Her Eight-Year-Old Daughter Dead in Kenmore Hills

A quiet, leafy street in Brisbane’s west was rocked by tragedy on Monday when police discovered the bodies of a woman and a young girl at a luxury Airbnb property.

The grim find came during a routine welfare check at a Tinarra Crescent home in Kenmore Hills around 12.45pm.

Authorities have since identified the pair as a 54-year-old woman from Norman Park and an 8-year-old girl, believed to be her daughter.

Disturbingly, their bodies were located outside the home, with police now treating the case as a suspected murder-suicide.

Crime Scene and Police Investigation

The expansive gated property was immediately declared a crime scene, and a major police investigation was launched.

While no arrests have been made, police emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public.

“Police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public,” a statement confirmed.

Detectives and forensic officers worked well into the night, combing the scene for evidence and trying to piece together what led to the shocking deaths.

Neighbours React with Shock

Residents of the normally serene street were left reeling. “It’s a very peaceful street, full of people way past their retirement days,” neighbour Dirk Vandenbroucke told the Courier Mail.

Many locals reported they only realized something was wrong when they saw emergency vehicles lining the street.

The Luxury Airbnb Property

The property involved had been operating as an Airbnb since at least 2023, following a sale a year earlier for $2.5 million.

The single-level, three-bedroom home sits on a 2.5-acre block and has been listed online for nearly $1,000 a night, with a five-night minimum stay.

The Airbnb advertises it as a tranquil retreat backing onto Mt Coot-tha National Park, featuring a stunning infinity pool, frangipani trees, and glimpses of kangaroos in the garden.

Kenmore Hills: A Coveted Suburb

Kenmore Hills is known for its large blocks and long-term homeowners, with a median house price of $1.35 million.

It ranks fifth in Brisbane for the biggest average property sizes near the CBD and is often described as the city’s most “held-onto” suburb, with residents staying an average of 21 years.
