Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala, a legendary kwaito artist and part of the famed ensemble TKZee, passed away on Monday, August 15th. According to City Press, a family member discovered his dead corpse, and it is reported that he died in his sleep after an epileptic attack. The legendary musician was 45 years old.
In the 1990s, Kabelo Mabalane, Zwai Bala, and MageshTshabalala founded the group TKZee. Phalafala and Shibobo are the group’s most well-known chart-topping singles. The award-winning ensemble wowed Mzansi with a performance at Celeb City in April, before the highly awaited boxing event between Casper Nyovest and NaakMusiq.
According to City Press, the deceased corpse of kwaito icon Magesh Tshabalala was discovered on August 15 by a member of his family. According to reports, he died in his sleep.
A member of the Tshabalala family said that his epilepsy contributed to his death.
“There are no apparent injuries on his body; he was just sleeping in bed,” added the family member.
In 1992, Magesh Tshabalala, Zwai Bala, and Kabelo Mabelane met at St. Stithians College in Johannesburg, and four years later, they established the group TKZee. Benni McCarthy, coach of Manchester United’s first team, is featured on the iconic song Shibobo.
Guz Hits, the most recent album by TKZee, was released in July 2005. They have since gone their own ways.
The last time Mzansi saw the quartet perform was earlier this year at Cassper Nyovest’s Celeb City event in Sun City.
Magesh is the son of Stanley Tshabalala, the leader of the Orlando Pirates. The local football team paid homage to the iconic kwaito performer in a statement issued on 15 August.
